I visited the museum with a friend of mine and what great experience. The volunteer who worked there was named Joy and she was truly a joy!! She had tons of interesting information and stories about Jimmy Stewart and the museum and was more than happy to tell us about them. Another volunteer named Brian also had valuable information. The museum is small but also bigger than you think and if you actually read a lot of the information and look at the pictures on the wall you will be there for a good 1 1/2 hours. A must see!!

If you are a fan of Jimmy Stewart or some of the best movies ever made, this is a great place to visit. This museum does a great job of showing the history of Stewart's family, and the local surroundings. Great detail is paid to both his extensive movie career, as well as his service to this county in the Army Air Corps, and then the Air Force. While we were already Jimmy Stewart fans when we arrived, this museum only enhanced our love and admiration of him.

The museum staff was great as well offering more insight into Jimmy's life. We arrived on a Saturday when it opened, and rode the elevator with one of the staff members. She got off the elevator and gave us a personal impromptu overview of the museum. Great job keeping his memory alive.

This museum is very special if you have watched Jimmy Stewart movies. If you haven’t seen his movies, I feel it would still be interesting to someone who likes history or American pop culture. It is admirable to learn about Jimmy’s service during WWII. Being a movie star, he could have opted for a “safer” job in the service. Instead, he was a pilot leading others in missions. I think this fact, more than the fact that he was a movie star, makes him someone heroic and memorable.

This was a very nice museum commemorating the life of Jimmy Stewart, including his childhood, his military service, his movies and awards, etc. A small gift shop included movies, mugs, and tshirts. I got two tshirts. One has a JS quote, “Always remember, be nice to people.” A good motto to live by, Jimmy.

What a gem of a museum! We spent several hours here, mostly because we watched a great movie (one is shown every day), and read everything about this amazing actor and human being. The museum offers several galleries. One is about his early life in town, then his military career, and of course, his movie career. Many of his personal possessions, and possessions he enjoyed, like his booth at his favorite restaurant, and his office, are there. If you like Jimmy Stewart, you absolutely must visit this museum. Check their website for parking information. The public garage is easy to find and inexpensive.

I honestly didn’t know much about Mr. Stewart, but after visiting the museum I know more now. He was a great guy! This museum is very nice and has lots of neat stuff to see. I loved all the film awards and movie memorabilia. There is a nice gift shop too. I would definitely visit again. The admission price was very reasonable. Thanks for a great visit. :)

Horrible staff who couldn't wait for us to leave... We knew we had to arrive by 3:30 to get in and drove like mad as we realized it would be 3:00 before we got to Indiana... then had a time finding it and a place to park. There were no signs once we got into the building indicating that it was on the top floor... so we arrived at about 3:10 or 3:15pm... whereupon the staff simply stared at us from inside their little booth. My sister went to the wicket and they reluctantly sold us two admissions. The man took it upon himself to remind us every five minutes that we'd have to leave soon. It took another three minutes to get back into the exhibit, and then two minutes later he'd interrupt us again... Finally, we gave up and left at about 3:50 noting on the way out that there was a little shop... oh well! I don't usually pass a gift shop without dropping at least a hundred bucks but this time I missed out. Luckily, you can get most James Stewart memorabilia at http://www.hollywoodmemorabilia.com/actor-musician-memorabilia/James-Stewart among other places...
If you want to visit - and we didn't get to see anything much that was there - arrive by 1pm so as not to upset the staff. We were there less than 1 hour and saw very little but I suspect that an hour of uninterrupted viewing would probably be sufficient.
James Stewart: 10/10
Exhibits: 6/10 (mostly articles and movie posters, some physical artifacts, some personal photos)
Atmosphere: 1/10
Not accessible to people with any physical disability (three flights of stairs, elevator not working)

Bring quarters, as the metered parking accepts quarters. The maximum time for the metered parking is 2 hours. If you are towing an RV, you may want to utilize the metered parking in the rear of the building. On the day that I visited, i had to climb multiple flights of stairs. The elevator is currently broken. To be honest, I had a difficult time locating this tiny building that is recessed from the road. Unbeknownst to me, I had walked by it. This building, which shares a space with the library, is located on the left of the courthouse. General admission is $9.00 per adult. People who are 50 and over pay $8.00. I think that this museum mainly appeals to those who are into the Jummy Stewart genre of movies. Photographs and news articles dot the walls. You can see Jimmy Stewart's boyhood home from the window of the museum. There is a small gift shop. NO PHOTOGRAPHY IS ALLOWED.

I took a girls trip with my friends because I've been wanting to see this museum and it was everything I hoped it would be! Of course a little on the small side but I was surprised how much was in there to see.
The only thing that bummed us out initially was the elevator was out of order and my one friend is a paraplegic and unable to climb stairs which there were 4 flights of!! I talked to the front desk and he told me where I could find an elevator on the first floor but that required my friend to climb a set of stairs. It was better than nothing, she did it! But please, fix the elevator!!

We visited the museum in August 2017 while we were on our way to Pittsburgh. The town of Indiana is a great small town and a nice place to stop during a long drive. The museum itself is right in the center of town and although I didn't see any parking lot, there were numerous on street parking w meters. The museum is located entirely on the 3rd floor of the public library and tickets were $8 per adult. I am not sure if there is an elevator because none of us had any issue with the stairs but I would definitely call first and ask. The museum is set up with a mini theater that has a terrific 45 minute biography film of the life of Jimmy Stewart. You should really spend the time to watch it especially if you have teenagers who arent familiar with Jimmy Stewart. Most of the museum is set up around the entire perimeter rectangle of the mini theater and there are also a few other rooms added as well. The museum contains many family photos, letters from his childhood all the way through to the end of his life. If you are interested in movie posters, they probably had every movie poster of every film he ever acted in along with a write-up of each film. I was more interested in artifacts like the old cash register, desk and other items from his parents hardware store. They also had about 5-6 uniforms, suits etc that were worn by him. They also had his childhood bedroom furniture and his office set up (which he used in California). I would suggest you allow 1.5 - 2 hours to visit this museum. The film alone is 45 minutes and you can probably see everything else in another 45 minutes but if you want to read every write up on every movie poster, you will need a total of 2 hours. There is also a nice gift shop at the end of the tour.
