One of the properties I visited while in Wiltshire. I did not view the house, as I love gardens. The formal areas were wonderful, but the lake was a real disappointment. It was full of algae, the banks were overgrown as were the surrounding areas. I guess it was the "wildlife friendly" look, but in reality is just a mess.... More

Not one of the largest National Trust properties, but certainly one of those that I have enjoyed visiting the most. Perhaps the guided tour was made all the more interesting because we were being shown around by the lady who lives there and cares for the beautiful garden. All rooms are used by the family and it's a real privilege... More

We took our American friends to Great Chalfield as it's not too big to go around but is steeped in history. They were bowled over by the fact it had stood since Medieval times! As we walked in to pay, we met the present incumbent of the Manor, who on hearing our friends accents, asked where they came from... only... More

Nice gardens and grounds plus a tea room area and a modern toilet block plus the delightful Manor itself which has featured in TV and movie productions including Wolf Hall. The house itself is only viewable with a tour guide. Tours take place on the hour from 11.00 and last 45 minutes. Tours are not bookable. Parking is on the... More

The home is the quintessential English manor and has been on my bucket list for years. I was not disappointed in any way. The grounds were a beautiful representation of a country garden, and the home itself is a fabulous preservation of English country life.

I went here with a friend from our local camera club, and had been recommended it by several other of our members. We had been wandering around the grounds with our cameras and taking lots of photographs. We decided to go and have a cuppa, and made our way past the stables. We saw a doorway surrounded with sunflowers and... More

We try to go to the plant fair, held in May, each year if we can. Such a great place to hold it, wonderful atmosphere, lovely food and great bargains on plants.

We appreciated hearing the history of the house presented by a very good guide as we visited the different rooms. The gardens are also worth a look and we also enjoyed visiting the church next to the house.

I walked here from the Courts Garden which is relatively easy, through some marked fields. The House and grounds are lovely. There are guided tours which are very informative, and led by National trust volunteers.
