Market on Saturday when we visited which meant several food stalls but not on the scale as its european equivalents. Excellent Waitrose and some independent shops - do look down the alleyways which need supporting.

Due to a fire in the 1660s a row of houses were demolished leaving Marlborough with second widest High Street in Europe. Plenty of parking and several independent shops as well as some well known chains. Six pubs, mostly with accommodation and several restaurants. A church at each end and a museum.

Nice array of independent shops and dining experiences,
Charity shops are good to visit.
Plenty of parking.
Gets busy at the weekend but worth a visit.

We usually like this high street with its mix of designer shops, a traditional butcher, a Tudor museum (often with pop up exhibits) and Waitrose.

Such a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. The ideal High St. Ranging from High St names to small independents.

Regular visitor to Marlborough and usually wouldn’t hesitate to give 5 stars. On this occasion I’ve accidentally come on Mop fair weekend. My god Marlborough why do you do this to yourselves? Cheap nasty tacky and completely inappropriate for a town like this. Non of the locals in shops I spoke or in restaurants wanted it either. I will be back - but not in October

Long High Street with many delightful and individual shops; warm welcome everywhere we went. Parking either on the High Street or a large car park at the rear.

A lovely quaint high street with independent shops but some commercial coffee shops. Car parking easy to access in middle of the street reasonable priced. Shop keepers chatty & friendly.

Unfortunately it was too hot to stay long! We decided against visiting The Merchant's House as it would have been too stuffy. The High Street is interesting though and there is a market on Wednesdays and Saturdays where Catley Foods is EXCELLENT value!

I so loved Marlborough. The independent shops and layout of the shops, open spaces, etc make this a very desirable place to visit (and to live too I imagine). As my visits were limited to two afternoons only I didn’t have the opportunity to experience restaurants or hotels.

A curious question. Aren't all shops in the UK open on Mondays ? :)

What are the opening hours for shops on weekend ?

Re opening hours, the shops are traditionally 09.00 until 17.00 but if the market is on then those stalls made close earlier. Sunday - not all shops will be open, the local Tourist Information Centre should be able to help with that. Enjoy.

Any free parking? Working all weekend and need somewhere free / cheap to leave the car for 48 hours?

To my knowledge, any parking within reach of the High Street is car parks/pay & display so unless you are prepared to walk a bit, it’s a case of finding the cheapest. Sorry I can’t offer any suggestions.
