I go every year- partly because of the Archaeology galleries- the prehistoric gallery is still just amazing in trms of design, and content- but the newer Anglo saxon gallery is equally worth a trip! The shop has really good local material , and the 1WW exhib is one of the best I have seen, poignant and local.

Admittedly I'm no archaeology buff, but this museum is a must for anyone 'doing Stonehenge'. The collections are amazing (including 2/3 of the bronze age gold in the UK!) and the galleries are all presented in a really clear and informative way. Not only was the pre-historic history of the area described in a really thoughtful manner, the Somme exhibition... More

I strongly recommend this museum if visitors have time to go there, it's amazing and the staff is very nice, a coffee shop near the museum is very cool~

As an archaeologist, I am always critical of the way museums explain archaeological issues to the great public. Wiltshire Museum's galleries are well planned, understandable and the collection inside is a real gem! If you are fond of archaeology and you are curious about who were the people who lived at the time of Stonehenge you can't miss it!

The collection is absolutely fantastic, which a large selection of unique artifacts from the time of stonehenge. Many interactive activities for all ages. New exhibition is one of the highest quality I've seen with a lot of video and illustration to support the objects. Be sure to check out the high quality battle of the Somme exhibit too!

There's always something fun and inspiring... More

An absolute must for anyone interested in Stonehenge, Avebuty and the ancient landscapes and culture. Clear displays of pottery, artefacts and the info about how the Stomehemge Landscape has been investigated in the past and now. Went as a follow up to our visits to the Momuments. Stayed 2 hours and there was still some we didn't see. Very friendly... More

Some cracking finds on display in this museum and easy-to-understand interpretations. A little higgledy-piggledy in places as the old displays meet the new ones in an old building that doesn't really lend itself to the purpose. Definitely worth a visit though if you're into that kind of thing.

This was a very useful reminder of what archaeologists found out about the Iron Age lives of Wiltshire inhabitants. A very useful introduction to Avebury Stones!
