I had some spare time whilst I had my car serviced to took a bus trip to Ilkley and took the opportunity to have a walk on Ilkley Moor. Given it was a weekday with changeable weather, it was worth a trip as was going to be quiet. My hikes tend to be in remote locations and busy attractions tend to be avoided, however it was good to reacquaint myself with the backdrop to Ilkley. Particularly as I visit Ilkley a lot. Paths are well defined and extensive. I walked around the Cow and Calf rocks and it had extensive views across the Wharfe Valley and the Dale's. Easily accessible by bus and train from Ilkley, Menston, Baildon and near Eldwick, you can experience a linear walk without the need to return to a car. This is a fantastic location for a day out, however it does need to be treated with respect as the fragile moorland can erode. Summer weekends are best avoided if you value a quiet day out. If you are visiting for the day or holidaying, this is a place to recommend.

Well off we went for a walk on the Yorkshire Moors to see the Cow and Calf and we met two sheep coming down the path. The drive along the stunning winding hilly roads was like a roller coaster ride with the most amazing views both left and right. Sheep wander around without a care in the world and we even saw some having a sleep on a tiny grass verge beside the road. The Cow and Calf seem to be a good starting point for rock climbers as we saw a lot of dads with children all kitted out to climb. This is a beautiful area to walk in and there is plenty of parking. There is a hotel with the same name but we didn't visit. If you enjoy walking you could spend hours in this area but even if you don't, it's certainly worth a visit just because it's a beautiful place.

This has got to be undoubtedly one of the jewels in the Crown of God's Own Country.

I am very fortunate to live just a mile away from the Majestic Cow and Calf Rocks and wake up in the morning and sit in my upstairs conservatory and marvel at the view.

The moor is a lovely place to visit in all seasons be it a beautiful sunny blue sky Spring or Summer's day and even in Autumn and Winter, it makes for a lovely day for a walk.

I must add, like the famous On Ilkla Moor Baht'at, you should always bring a hat in all seasons as it can be a bit breezy up on the rocks...

You can walk off a nice pub lunch from the Cow and Calf Pub across the road and then when you're done walking, put your feet up in the marquee at the Cow and Calf Rock Cafe, which serves an array of beverages and food.

You can sit in awe of the stunning views over Skipton, The Dales and of course beautiful Ilkley.

So put a date in your diary and come and visit, you will not be sorry that you did, but you will if you don't.

Ever since I was a small child and my mother taught me ' On Ilkley Moor' I wanted to walk the moor [hatless of course].And I am so glad I did. In two days I did three separate walks on the moor. It is a very special place

This moorland just to the south of the Dales is a really lovely place for hikes. We followed a circuit hike that took in Ilkley Tarn, Stanza Stone Beck, Ilkley Moor Cow & Calf Rocks, The Twelve Apostles Stone Circle, Ilkley Crags and White Wells. Well worth the walk and it’s not hard to see how it inspires the Yorkshire anthem "On Ilkley Moor baht 'at"

It's a good place to change the atmosphere from Leeds.
I have been here 3 times in 3 seasons.
Overall, they were all great. But I suggest going in spring around Easter that the sky is blue and sunny.
The walk is nice and long that you can extend your walk to nearby places.
For the first visit, I walked from Shipley to Ilkley (across the moors) which was incredible, tbh.
Would recommend this place to anyone who wants to have a quick getaway from Leeds!

We went to Ikley Moors last September & Returned last weekend August 20th to see the Heather In Bloom. Last September we got the train to Ikley & climbed the hill from the train station all the way to Cow & Calf on the moors. It was absolutely fabulous & so worth the long trek. This year we got a ride to Ikley Moors. It was a Glorious sight to see all the moors covered in purple. Such a Beautiful sight. The view from the moors are so Beautiful. There are lots of paths to follow & it's a great day out just walking & enjoying the views, take a picnic. There are bathrooms at the bottom where there is parking.

We went on another rainy day :) the paths were very slippy. But once you make it to the top, to the stone circle what a view. You can see all the way to Leeds and the power plant near Selby even on a dreary day. Free car park is always a bonus just a shame the cafe was closed. After the exhilarating walk the town is really pleasant to walk around too. Would thoroughly recommend coming here, but perhaps when it's dry next time.

We had a lovely walk around here and our dog loved it which is the main reason we visited. Peaceful, and all that fresh air. There is free parking, but the car park was very busy when we arrived. We managed to get one of the last spots, and there were still cars queuing to get parked.

A lovely walk around the moor on a sunny March day. Whilst visiting friends they took us round a trail on the moor. Lovely views and easy trails. Deffo worth a visit and just next to our hotel the Cow & Calf. I recommend walking boots first bit of stability.
