Quaint palace
Nov 2019 • Couples
Really interesting palace in Certaldo Alto. Worth a visit if you’ve taken the trip up from the main town. The artefacts are nicely curated and the history is explained in detail as you move round the rooms. The entrance fee wasn’t much at all as it included other museums in the vicinity, and you’re contributing to the upkeep as well.

Located at the hill. I didn’t get inside. But the walls and frescos are really nice and must be lots of history behind the wall.

lovely palace

When you buy a ticket here it give you entry to the church next door and Casa Di Boccaccio. It is an interesting palace with a lovely initial courtyard with a well. There are a number of rooms to visit and some with modern art which left us cold! Whatever rocks your boat.

Quaint medieval palace in Certaldo
May 2019 • Friends
This 12th century palace is a place to visit when in Certaldo. It has several museums inside. Our group did not visit the museums but we attended a wedding which was held on the ground floor of the building. Leading to the palace is a long pathway with restaurants along the way. The place is clean and has an ambiance of antiquity.

Not to be missed
Sep 2018 • Friends
A visit to the Palazzo Pretorio is not to be missed when in Certaldo Alto. With its prime location overlooking the main street, it is easy to find, and it's interesting to walk around the historical, if slightly worn, original interiors.

Best Palazzo Ever!
Jul 2018 • Couples
And we were lucky enough to get married in the courtyard! It is most definitely a 'hidden gem' (as another reviewer said), in an oasis of calm. The complete opposite of San Gimignano and let's hope it stays that way!

Catch the Funicular from the lower town up to Alto and enjoy the 1min journey.

Hidden gem

Certaldo is not a very touristic town, yet its castle is magnificent. Several nice restaurants inside the castle walls and some true historic places.

600 year old graffiti!
Jun 2018 • Couples
Certaldo itself feels like it is off the main tourist radar, certainly so when we visited in early June. Having caught the funicular up to the old town we thoroughly enjoyed wandering around the old buildings, including parts used as courts and cells. An inscription on the wall of the court room from the 1300s translates as 'Hate the other side and believe little' (!) whilst in one of the cells there is graffiti made by candle smoke by an artist frequently locked up at the time, in which he is threatening his adverseries! It is definitely worth reading the translated information boards in these rooms. It was lovely to have the time and space to explore without hoards of tour groups.
