Great Family Beach
Mar 2021
Our family has visited the beach on many occasions. It has a wide sandy area before you get to the water. There are several bars with food available for lunch but supper is questionable. The parking can get busy so park with your car facing outward to avoid getting trapped. This spot is visited by many beginning surfers so as the tide is coming in the parking area can get busy. The water is very nice for kids and families as the waves are not very big, powerful and you must go way out before it gets deep. Some of the bars offer places to sit if you buy something. There are no umbrellas/beach chairs per se but plenty of places to sit at the bars. There are really no trees to hide out in either as the area is slowly being developed into vacation houses. That being said it is not very busy even at the height of the activity. We have been there on many occassions by ourselves and the only people in the water. Activity picks up around the surfing times. My 9 year old son is not very confident in the ocean and this place is excellent for him to play in the shallow water without fear of a rogue wave mashing him or a strong riptide.

We have visited Remanso in the past, especially when the Black Monkey Restaurant was open (not closed). Rumour is that one has to be a little careful at this beach, which is unfortunate because it is sandy, nice and somewhat sheltered. I could not convince by wife to visit due to historic rumours, but it would be a good site if security has been improved. I will continue to monitor this before my next visit. P.S. Road to beach is somewhat rough.

Very nice sandy coastline for kids to play in with toys. In a bay like setting so waves arent that big.

On Monday, Mar. 18 I took a group of 24 Canadians to Playa Remanso. What a great day. We started out by everyone enjoying a swim in the Pacific Ocean. Just a few stones from the restaurant to the beach and then the wonderful Pacific sand and the ocean. The waves were perfect for body surfing. Then to the restaurant for lunch. After lunch we met Den from One 2 Surfnicaragua. He had himself and 3 others for instruction. After safety rules, the 12 surfers were divided into 3 groups of 4, each with their own instructor. After the instruction, everyone hit the waves. The water, other than being a bit cold, was perfect for beginning surfing. The instructors were right in the water, helping the surfers get the boards out past the breaking waves, then helping and telling them when to stand up and ride the waves. There were some fantastic rides. Thanks Den for making this a most remarkable day. Comes highly recommended.

Most beautiful beach
Feb 2019 • Couples
Worth the trip if not staying close. Nice and quiet, beautiful for beginner surfing as not many people to dodge. A few nice bars on the beach with great drinks and fresh fish every day (you can literally watch them spear it and bring it into the bars within 20 minutes). Would personally recommend MokeHuhu bar for service and great drinks and Eduardo for any surfing lessons. Worth the trip out, one of the most beautiful beaches in/around SJDS.

ps. one of the photos shows a very rocky beach, this is only right around where the bars are... must have been very high tide because the entire beach is meters and meters of beautiful white sand - zero rocks and zero seaweed etc.

Nice local surf beach

About 20 minutes from town, this surf beach had lots of seating and 3 separate bars and lots of seating.
A busy spot - many locals come here.

nice spot

At the right tide, the surf is good. You can rent boards, and there are some great spots right on the beach to eat. Too rocky to lay out on a towel.

Gentle surf

This was the perfect beach for learning to surf. The waves were a reasonable size for beginners and you could touch the bottom which made it much less tiring to paddle out.

Great for beginning surfing

Our go to beach while in SJDS for surf lessons for my wife and long board surfing for myself. The vibe here is much friendlier and the food better than on Maderas Beach.
The surf was a bit rough for swimming, but this we saw at Maderas as well.
