saw how the Maoist leaders lived. Amazing. So committed. . The rooms were spartan with minimun furniture. Mao had his own wooden bathtub.

This is the physical epicenter of the Chinese Communist Party in the years up 1949. Both Mao and Zhou En Lai lived here and the Party had its HQ here. If you are a student of history, this is a must see site.

Few foreigners make it here, but it is a unique place to visit for foreign students of Chinese history. Little English spoken here, but plenty of museums and monuments and the nearby site (30 mins away) of Liangjiahe where Xi Jinping was exiled during the brutal Cultural Revolution!

I have no idea of this Revolutionary Site in Yan'an until my tour guide suggested that this is an important place to visit for anyone who is visiting Yan'an. Out of curiosity, we decided to add that into our itinerary.
The place consisted of many yaodong which great leaders of China stayed including Mao Zedong. It is an eye-opener and interesting trip as we moved from one yaodong to another and view the living condition, the premise and the working condition of the historical leaders. Including a small piece of farmland which Mao planted his own food. The garden which he sat down for relaxation.
Good place to visit and enhanced the history of the Revolutionary China.

This place is also known as the Date Garden, the site of the former offices Chinese Communist Party Secretariat. It is very similar to the Yangjialing Revolutionary Former site. One can leisurely explore the cave houses as well as a simple garden. Worthwhile to visit if you are in Yanan region and interested in Chinese revolutionary history.
