About
The Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum’s assemblage of 22 aircraft, 2 engines and large historic aviation artifact collection represents and spans several eras in the history of aviation: World War I through World War II, The Korean War, The Vietnam War, The Cold War Era, The Gulf War, The Balkan War, The Iraq War, and the War in Afghanistan. Our museum is ranked in the top three civil and military aviation museums in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; based on the number of historical aircraft currently on display. Our museum’s 60+ all-volunteer team are dedicated and passionate people. They take a forceful and enthusiastic role in preserving and teaching about both local and global aviation’s history, growth and achievements. We regularly welcome visitors from the local community, every state in the United States, and internationally, from 43 countries

The tour guide was friendly and fun. Lots to see and read about. Up close! Many planes to walk up to outside. A great way to spend 1-2 hours.

We liked it here. There are very nice people running the place and they will tell you a story about the history of the base. Easy parking and it doesn’t cost much. So why not

Very informative. Nice little museum for a day out. If it is a slow day they will take the time to show you around and give you detailed info and tour you around.

Another lifetime ago I spent a lot of time my last two years in the Navy at Willow Grove NAS. Like so many stations that were hives of activity back then, Willow Grove is now closed as well. But they still have a small piece of history that aviation enthusiasts would find very interesting. The Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum. Filled with great information about all aviation and not just Naval, it is a hidden gem that should not be missed if in the area.

We visited this place on a rainy/snowy day (didn’t check up the weather last minute, my bad). The museum is small yet packed with a lot of info. There are couple of small planes located inside the building while most of the larger ones are located outdoors. We were welcomed in by a very friendly staff at the front desk and a young boy Justin was our official guide. He was informative and my kids enjoyed the stimulation plane activity with him. He was very patient and friendly to the kids, answered all their questions as honestly as possible. We quickly came back indoors (snowing outsides) and didn’t stay out to enjoy the outdoor planes on display leaving it hopefully for a beautiful sunny day. I would recommend if you’re local and looking to spend a couple of hours to learn about Pitcairn family and the airplanes.

It's a great place to spend an afternoon. The museum offers a truly unique source of American and local history. The volunteers I met (Shirley and Moose) were passionate, knowledgeable, and couldn't have been nicer. Overall a fantastic experience

The Wings of Freedom Museum provides an introductory tour with the price of admission. Exhibits explore the history of aviation in the area and throughout the nation. Best for adults and teens. Very nice outside , static display of planes.

Relatively small but worth 2-3 hours if you're interested in aviation. Guided tour reveals loads of interesting and entertaining facts that you are not likely to be aware of even if you are an aviation buff. Tour groups are just a handful of people and presenter was excellent.

We are so grateful for your kind words! We do have a very History-rich collection of artifacts and we just love to share their story! What makes the artifacts come to life, as you pointed out, is the knowledge, skill and enthusiasm of our docents! We hope you will visit us again in the near future!

This museum is neat, and the volunteers are clearly very committed and knowledgeable. Definitely for adults and aircraft enthusiasts.

However, we wish that the website made clear that a guided tour is required of the grounds. Our kids would’ve been happier wandering the grounds with a parent (and the provided guidebook) at their own pace, but that didn’t seem to be an option.

Also, the outdoor pavilion (where the guide graciously took us to view the aircraft in the shade) was teeming with very large stinging insects, which made the kids nervous. It was a very uninviting outdoor spot.

We apologize for the insects in the pavilion. Thank you for letting us know about the issue. We have, and will always allow our visitors to walk freely around the aircraft display yard. All we ask is that sensible supervision to prevent children from being injured is exercised by the parents or guardians. I would be most grateful if you could tell us where you thought there was a "restriction" enumerated in the website content. We will immediately review the wording ... we have never had this comment before! We offer specially guided tours ... however, we never insist upon them! Thank you!

This place is not very big. Perhaps a dozen and a half aircraft. The inside museum however, has numerous models and information. We spent about 1 1/2 hours there. Little children may not enjoy it, but adults will. They have a helicopter simulator there which you can try. If you are in the area, it's worth a look. They have family admission rates. Parking is free. Some (most) aircraft are outside, so don't go on a rainy day.
