Made a day trip here from Ohio. It is a nice state park but at least for the hiking we did it was nothing special. I imagine in the fall and spring the foliage flowers and views may have been nicer. There are several picnic areas with tables and grills if needed. We noted overgrown trails in the wildflower region.

It's getting real pretty around the lake right now. Been to the park twice recently: once by the lake and the other in the Wildflower Reserve. It's all about hiking for me and they got some pretty nice, well maintained trails here especially around the lake area. I circled the lake using the Heritage, Forest, and Lake Trails. On Wildflower Reserve side, some of the trails were little overgrown and a bit hard to navigate especially the Beaver Trail. I guess spring is the best time of year to see the wildflowers, and the whole area was a bit overgrown but still quite beautiful especially along the creek which is easily accessed by the Old Forest Trail. Yeah the foliage by the creek was real nice, maybe not blazing but definitely breathtaking with the leaves cradling the creekside. You know looking at some maps online now, I see there's a whole big other area of the park to the west of Pennsylvania Highway 18 with a lot more trails and things to see. I want to go there right now. Yesterday I hiked about five miles and the day before eight, and I feel like I can do it over again and even more. I don't know if I should though. I'm 60 years old and maybe I should rest my legs for a day. Yesterday, Mary and I were talking about people our age pushing themselves too hard. It's got to be better than just sitting at home and watching TV, and the only exercise being running back and forth to the fridge. My fridge is full too.

Conveniently located off Route 22, this is an excellent park with a variety of activities that are very family-friendly. There is a free beach to swim, with a near-by concession stand and a few picnic areas. There is a kayak/SUP rental available inside the park. Not a big lake, but beautiful. There are a number of hiking trails, the longer being the Forest and Heritage Trails, which connect to make a backpacking loop. In addition, there are a number of horse trails in the area. Raccoon Creek SP also has a Wildflower Reserve with a few trails, incredible flower blooms and bird watching opportunities.

In an effort to social distance this summer, my family has been going to state, county, and national parks every weekend. Raccoon State park did not disappoint. It is lovely! There is a clean sandy beach where you can catch some rays and take a dip in the lake. There is fishing, kayaking, and hiking. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy the day. We will definitely return to this park this summer.

Beautiful Park. The park rangers were very friendly and successfully addressed a noise complaint we had so that it didn't happen again the following night. The trail we hiked on was pretty overgrown in areas. Kayaking on the lake was great. All the staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. Modern cabins smell musty and could use a deep clean.
