My family went to see the Bluey show at the Hershey theatre on November 29, 2022. We got there at 5:00 p.m. The show was supposed to start at 6:00 p.m. but didn't start until 6:20.p.m. so the actual show lasted around 40 minutes. We spent more time in line waiting to be scanned and having bags searched than the actual show. They literally have rulers and a block to go by to make sure that your clutch is not an inch over the required 5 by 8 by 1 inch clutch. You can only get into the theatre with a cell phone, keys and a card or two. You literally cannot take anything else inside unless you have a diaper bag for your child. The only reason they allow that is because they don't want law suits. NOT the funnest way to spend a weeknight and I will reconsider going to any more shows there considering how expensive the tickets are for these shows.

My daughter and I took my husband to the theater for Father's Day weekend. Our time was spoiled when we arrived and we were rudely told by a male security guard that our small purses (mine 12”x7”x5”, my daughter’s even smaller) were not allowed. There was no obvious notice of this policy ahead of time – I found it later on the website after some searching. Many others in the queue were as surprised as we were. We were told to lock our purses in our cars. We were just seated when I remembered that my car key was in my purse, meaning the car would not be locked. When my daughter tried to leave the theater to retrieve the key, she was again stopped by a rude male guard who told her she would not be allowed back in; however, she found another employee who promised she could return. If there is a good reason for this rule, we cannot figure it out. Also, it was not lost on us that we were watching “Six,” about female empowerment, while this policy adversely affected only females who often carry purses and enforced by impolite males. We live in Reading and have many other choices for live theater in our area – we will think twice before booking at Hershey again.

We dropped over $600 for tickets to a touring show and arrived 30 minutes before the advertised start time. We wound up standing in the rain for over 30 minutes to enter an old, dilapidated theater that had boarded up windows. The reason for such a long line? An understaffed security process and a no bag policy that was not reasonably advertised if at all when purchasing tickets. My child had trouble seeing the entire show despite being in the 4th row because the theater does not have an incline. The bathrooms rival the disrepair found in the famously disgusting NY Penn Station. Not worth the trip. Not worth the money.

I have seen many shows at the Hershey Theatre over the past decade, from concerts to ballets to musicals. I have always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my experience today changed that. I attended the Nutcracker Ballet with my kids. Despite bringing the smallest purse I own, I was told it was too big and I had to leave it in the car. I had no pockets beyond my coat pockets, so I had to stuff my keys, feminine items, phone, and wallet as best I could. The size limit is insanely small, and I’ve had better experiences with measuring luggage at the airport.
On top of that, I tried to get in the concession line to get my daughter a bottle of water. I was told my security that the line was closed because they wanted to get everyone seated, and to try again during intermission. There is nowhere to get a drink outside of the concession stand - the water fountains are not turned on. And I couldn’t bring my own bottle.
Even so, the show started 15 minutes late.
We were told that if you left to go to the bathroom during the show, you would not be allowed to re-enter until intermission. At a show full of children. So predictably, the bathroom line at intermission was crazy. And after running to the bathroom, I wasn’t allowed in the concession line once more.
Overall the experience was so terrible. I never had such a bad time there before. Really disappointed, and probably won’t be returning any time soon.

The Hershey Theatre has extremely uncomfortable seating. Our knees were in our chest. The bathrooms are not Ada acceptable. You have to go up or down a flight of stairs to get to the men's room. Security is inconsistent and a joke. I saw people walk around the scanners, walk through the scanners beeping and red lights, and never get stopped or checked. Next, the temperature in the theater was hot and humid for the Beetleguise show. We were sweating, and people around us were fanning themselves. The FM Kirby Center and the Community Arts Center are much better venues.

My partner and I had orchestra tickets to see Diana Krall. However, when we arrived and had the tickets scanned, the usher told us that we had to go up to the second floor to get to our seats. When we got to the second floor, that usher sent us up to the top balcony. Climbing all those stairs was very hard on my knees, plus my partner and I are both elderly and not used to walking up stairs. I couldn't understand how I ordered the wrong tickets. After we finally settled in, the very same usher who seated us came to us and said we were in the wrong seats, and we'd have to move! I showed her my tickets. They were in the orchestra section after all. So, we went down all those steps and finally got seated in the right section! I think the Hershey Theatre management should train their staff - particularly the ushers - to be more mindful and careful when checking tickets.

I saw KC and the Sunshine band last night. The band was absolutely amazing. The theater was gorgeous. The rules of the theater were ridiculous. I have a disco ball hat I love to wear to shows. I’ve worn it to theaters and venues all over the United States. From DC, to Seattle, to LA, to Miami, Denver, Dallas, and Moody Theater in Austin to see Kool and The Gang. Security always makes me take it off to check it as they should and that’s fine. Last night at Hershey Theater was the first time I was told I couldn’t wear it in to a show. I was going to see an iconic 50 year old disco/funk band and was so looking forward to wearing it and getting pictures in it. It’s a disco ball hat!!!! But I was told It was a weapon and they made me give it to security as we walked in to be locked in an office and wouldn’t be able to wear it until after the show when I left. I have been to venues all over the country and never had this happen. It’s a disco ball hat. It’s a fashion accessory. At most places its welcomed with open arms. It usually brings joy to everyone who sees it. But this theater said it was a weapon and I couldn’t creatively joyously express myself how I usually do and that was a total buzz kill. Be better Hershey. Other theaters everywhere are. I won’t return.

Just saw Jesus Christ Superstar At Hershey 2 days ago. 100$/ticket. POORLY done in my opinion. The theater was designed to NOT use electronic boosting of instruments. This caused POOR sound dynamics in such a venue. Where was the sound engineers thought process. Did anyone actually sit in the audience to check this?? All this did was bounce sound all around so as not to be able to hear the singers . LOUD does NOT equal well done!

This theatre is an asset. Parking is adequate and adjacent. Prices are reasonable for the quality of events. Sight line down close are little tight when one would expect it to be better. Lobby is tight if you are waiting for the doors to open. But this is small stuff and a personal gripe. I'm looking forward to future showings.

If sitting in the lodge area is there a wall blocking your view? Do u sit low enough that the wall would block view partially? Are the balcony seats far enough away that the stage view would not be as good for the show?
Written January 13, 2020
The loge and balcony seats all offer good views. No walls blocking sight lines. As stated before, there is no elevator, so make certain you can do stairs for balcony seats.

Having taken my grandson to see Clifford and sitting in the orchestra and loge, he had a blast in the loge. There were many empty seats and it was like being on stage.

We are traveling to Hershey on April 23 and staying until the 26th. Are there any shows within that time?
Written January 11, 2019
Yes - there are two shows. RENT and Brian Regan. We saw RENT when it was here a few years ago and it was well worth seeing. Get tickets early as they sell out quickly.

Can my 2 year old sit on my lap during the show without a ticket? I purchased 2, one for myself & one for my 7 year old.
Written April 21, 2018
You should call to confirm, but I believe you have to have a ticket per person (not seat).
