The Hershey Theater is a beautiful, old theater built during the Great Depression. It is so beautiful it truly adds to the experience of any show seen here. For those with mobility issues, there are no elevators. For the ladies, be aware purses larger than 5”x 8” are not allowed. And yes, someone is checking. We saw many women getting out of line to take their purses to their car. Sadly some made it all the way to the metal detector point before being denied access. This info is not on the website. It did however, show up in an email regarding the event which many women, myself including apparently did not read.

My wife and I went there for the first time on February 28 to see a performance of Bandstand (a musical). I have an appreciation for architecture, and this place is a real gem. It dates back to the early 1930s and has been beautifully restored. Nothing like sitting on mohair upholstered seats and enjoying fabulous acoustics. It would be too costly to build today and there are few craftsman around that could handle the fine building finishes. We are eager to go back there!

Excellent venue to see a show. Have been coming here for many, many years. Have seen travelling Broadway shows, musicals, comedians. It is gorgeous inside, very old building. If you have a chance to see a show at this historic theater, do it. I do think the seats could use some refurbishment though. Even the Orchestra seats are a bit worn and not terribly comfortable.

My family went to see the Bluey show at the Hershey theatre on November 29, 2022. We got there at 5:00 p.m. The show was supposed to start at 6:00 p.m. but didn't start until 6:20.p.m. so the actual show lasted around 40 minutes. We spent more time in line waiting to be scanned and having bags searched than the actual show. They literally have rulers and a block to go by to make sure that your clutch is not an inch over the required 5 by 8 by 1 inch clutch. You can only get into the theatre with a cell phone, keys and a card or two. You literally cannot take anything else inside unless you have a diaper bag for your child. The only reason they allow that is because they don't want law suits. NOT the funnest way to spend a weeknight and I will reconsider going to any more shows there considering how expensive the tickets are for these shows.

I have seen many shows at the Hershey Theatre over the past decade, from concerts to ballets to musicals. I have always enjoyed it. Unfortunately, my experience today changed that. I attended the Nutcracker Ballet with my kids. Despite bringing the smallest purse I own, I was told it was too big and I had to leave it in the car. I had no pockets beyond my coat pockets, so I had to stuff my keys, feminine items, phone, and wallet as best I could. The size limit is insanely small, and I’ve had better experiences with measuring luggage at the airport.

On top of that, I tried to get in the concession line to get my daughter a bottle of water. I was told my security that the line was closed because they wanted to get everyone seated, and to try again during intermission. There is nowhere to get a drink outside of the concession stand - the water fountains are not turned on. And I couldn’t bring my own bottle.

Even so, the show started 15 minutes late.

We were told that if you left to go to the bathroom during the show, you would not be allowed to re-enter until intermission. At a show full of children. So predictably, the bathroom line at intermission was crazy. And after running to the bathroom, I wasn’t allowed in the concession line once more.

Overall the experience was so terrible. I never had such a bad time there before. Really disappointed, and probably won’t be returning any time soon.

I went to a Thursday afternoon matinee with my daughter, & her 3 yr old to see the Wiggles. The Wiggles show was very good but you won't find me at that theater again. We arrived to the front of the Theatre 40 minutes before show time. Upon arriving we found out that there is no parking for afternoon shows. They use the Hershey Foods employee parking for evening shows only. We were sent approximately 6 blocks away to a parking garage. I asked if there was any parking closer since I have trouble walking distances and I was rudely told "no" by the wannabe security guy. Traffic was busy and when we finally made it to the parking garage, We were in a line of others from the Theatre and we slowly wound our way to the top only to find out it the garage was was full. There was a very small area for us all to turn around to go slowly go back down the garage and by this time it was 10 minutes before show time. I called the Theatre office as we were leaving the garage and they told us there there is another lot for parking on Homestead Dr., which we passed twice before but did not realize that we could park there. We finally parked and tried to run to catch the beginning of the show. As we approached the front of the theater the rent-a-security guys were "still" sending cars to the "full" parking garage.
The fact that there is no parking near the theater for afternoon shows should have been clearly listed on the Hershey Theatre website. I will not be going there again.

First-time patron:

A steep learning curve!

Yes, the theater is beautiful..., but who can see it? You wait like herded cattle and then are unceremoniously pushed out following a poorly acoustically modulated performance.

I don't care how strongly the theatre's staff makes the statement online, and I read it, but the Theatre's entry and exit logistics are horrible. Experienced cold weather, a very long line, stuffed entry hall, waited like herded cattle until the "House Opens' is NOT for the faint of heart. Theatre should have a separate entrance for main floor seating and "upper deck". Crossing paths in the thirty minutes before show's opening is not fun and begs for more direction. From my unfortunate seats in balcony, the vocals for "The Book of Mormon" were nearly indecipherable. Poor diction/amplification of both male and female actors or poor acoustics made the sound of musical numbers rattle around the stone walls. Spoken diction was just fine. Angle of balcony seating to the stage made it very challenging if you sit behind a bubble-hair woman or Mr. T sized man. Spend the bucks and sit down below.

The parking lot staff have no clue, and the lot's users are discourteous and park wherever they want: white lines are at best advisory. Find a spot near an exit gate and park facing out..., DO NOT park facing in. Better yet, take a taxi or walk from a nearby lot.

Bathrooms are challenging for women, so be prepared. The balcony accommodations are more generous than those on the round ground floor.

Advice is to arrive at least one hour early and prepare for standing in a very crowded hall. You will not gain entry to theatre seating until T-30 minutes.

First of all the group Rain did a spectacular rendition of the Beatles. Hershey Theater is a beautiful theater built in the 30's. The view from the seat was good, the hall has good acoustics. Plenty of ushers to show you to your seat.

My friends and I saw "Once On This Island" at this theatre. It is one of those majestic theaters built in the 1930s. We found the seats to be comfortable and very inviting. Nice venue for any type of performance.

People often say “They don’t build them like that anymore.” Well it’s certainly the case when describing this beyond beautiful venue. The seats are roomy and comfortable. The guided work, mosaic tile and ornate Devore are a masterpiece. I would love to return and see another show in this theater.
