Beautiful and user-friendly small gardens.
Jun 2021 • Couples
We hoo to a lot of gardens so when I say this is the best rose collection I've ever seen... Perhaps it was the June weather or the decades of work or the overall soil or climate but the Rose's were spectacular. Also very nice: the small but charming butterfly pavilion, the stained glass butterflies in the entrance hall, the Bernoulli balancing ball near the Children's Garden, (do not miss this), the Japaese Garden, and the mother tree in the rock garden.

Great place to spend a relaxing day
Jun 2021 • Family
The Hershey Gardens is a nice relaxing place to visit if you are in the area. The whole area is well kept and parking is very convenient. Tickets are reasonably priced. The flowers are well kept, however most of the gardens did not have blooming plants. It was a very peaceful walk with well established shade trees and many songbirds inhabiting the grounds. It’s approximately a mile to walk the entire path which is mostly paved. The butterfly garden is amazing. There are many different types of butterfly species and you have the opportunity to get up close to them. I would recommend a visit to Hershey Gardens for anyone looking for a beautiful, peaceful place to spend some time.

Beautiful gardens, great value
Jun 2021 • Friends
My husband and I went on a whim to Hershey Gardens on our last day in Lancaster and we were so happy to make the 40 minute drive. The gardens were beautiful. We’ve been to Longwood Gardens many, many times and while Hershey Gardens is no where near as big, the rose gardens, walking paths and butterfly atrium were all worth it. The butterfly atrium was so beautiful! It was a relaxing day enjoying everything nature has to offer at a great value, as the tickets were less than $15.

A lovely perk of our spa package!
May 2021
My daughter and I booked a Spa Vacation Package at the Hershey Hotel, and it included complimentary tickets to this garden. I'm not sure I would have paid full admission price for this attraction, but it definitely was a nice bonus. The main building has a butterfly atrium with several hundred butterflies of various species. It was fun to watch them fly around, and there were some nice plants to see as well, including a cacao tree, an undomesticated poinsettia (very different from the kinds we buy at Christmas!), and a vanilla plant. Elsewhere in the building there's a small gift shop that was fun to browse for a couple of minutes. Outdoors, you'll find a large rose garden that was delightful to stroll through—my daughter and I spent time smelling each of the many varieties (the most fragrant are the pink Tiffany roses, followed by a fiery reddish-pink variety called Dolly Parton). Afterwards, we walked along some of the gentle trails on the property, featuring interesting trees, native grasses, and some more flowers. The only part of the garden that was a bit of a letdown was the children's garden--it seemed a bit neglected in places. But in all, we had a nice time.

Visit Was Below Our Expectations
May 2021
If you've been to Longwood Gardens, lower your expectations before visiting here. While the grounds are tranquil, lovely to walk around on the beautiful, sunny day we were there, I was quite surprised with the apparent lack of pre-maintenance of the grounds/beds just two weeks before summer "starts" with Memorial Day. Plus (probably because of COVID) they had no hard copy maps to look at to find your way around. Solution was to take a pic of the lobby map or load the map on your phone. Didn't like having to pull out my phone every time I wanted to see where I was going.

Except for the rose garden beds by Swan Lake, NO OTHER beds were edged, mulched or even planted with anything to look at. It appeared little to no work had been done to the beds since winter. HG personnel were working on the beds while we there but why more work on the grounds wasn't done sooner is a puzzle to me. The grass had clover, the beds unkempt and weedy, the grass not edged or trimmed along the walkways and frankly not much to look at because things had already bloomed or there simply wasn't anything planted in the empty beds. I'm sure it will be beautiful once the roses bloom but there has to be more to attract folks beyond the roses but we didn't see much of anything. Don't like to compare to Longwood Gardens where their grounds are meticulously groomed whenever you go there but it's hard not to. Very disappointing.

We did very much enjoy the Butterfly Atrium. Cool place, not big, but plenty of butterflies flitting around. to make it a fun place to check our regardless of your age.

Tranquil Place
Apr 2021
The garden’s flowers were not in bloom when we visited, but the trees were blossoming and were beautiful. The garden was quiet and serene. Lots of benches throughout to sit and relax in this peaceful place. The kids loved the children’s garden. They spent quite a bit of time there and had to be coaxed out to go see the butterflies. The butterfly garden is definitely a highlight of this place. The temperature of the atrium is a warm 80 degrees and the plants are tropical. Butterflies galore are flying around and resting on plant leaves. They are beautiful and totally worth a visit to the gardens to see.

Glad we went here!

Excellent customer service. Wonderful staff, especially Michael, who patiently answered our questions about the butterflies. He was very friendly and accommodating, including all of the staff we have encountered since entering the property. The garden was well-maintained. It was such a beautiful place. I'm really glad we went to see this magnificent garden.

Nice, but underwhelming
Apr 2021
The gardens are nice but relatively small. We visited in April and the flowering trees were lovely, but it would seem that the main attraction would be the roses, which are not yet in bloom. We might have rated the gardens higher but we were quite concerned with the COVID-19 precautions, at least with respect to the butterfly garden. We were part of a group of at least 20-30 people who were let in at the same time - we were first herded into a very small holding area between two doors, which prevented any social distancing (although masks are required), and then into the butterfly enclosure, which is small so that it too precludes social distancing.

Butterfly garden!!!
Apr 2021 • Family
Always a beautiful experience! The gardens are definitely more beautiful to visit during the spring and summer months but it was still awesome to visit with the butterflies and walk the grounds. Staff here are always super sweet and friendly.
