Hershey Gardens is a very peaceful, beautiful place. Kind of the opposite of all the tourist craziness at the amusement park and at Chocolate World. For a family of several people, the ticket price adds up, but it is such a peaceful place with walking paths, a rose garden with so many varied types of roses, a childrens area, bridges to cross, so many different kinds of plants and trees often labeled. And the butterflies inside the butterfly garden are a treat to see. I actually had a better time than I thought I would. Some people may get bored, but we are nature lovers and this was the perfect place for us to end our trip to Hershey after a morning at Chocolate World.

This place was enjoyed by the entire family, including children aged 4. The grounds are very well maintained, spread out for everyone to enjoy without walking on top of one another. Had a children's area as well. The butterfly atrium was a delight, although the young ones were a little hesitant. Definitely wear comfortable walking shoes. Highly recommend!

Fun day exploring the grounds on a warm early November day. The butterfly atrium is worth the price of admission for those with little ones.

A sweet escape from the hustle of Hershey park!

Our trip to Hershey Gardens was part of a week long trip to visit numerous botanical gardens. At Hershey, we began with the small butterfly atrium. Many families were there enjoying the experience.

Outside, the rose garden was the best we saw anywhere, with row upon row of labeled blooms. Following paved walkways led us to other shaded garden paths with large trees and perennial plantings. Many trees are unusual specimens and many are quite large. The paved walks make it easy for the disabled to enjoy the gardens.

Other parts of the garden were a complete fail. The perennial garden was a patch of dirt planted with tiny new shoots without so much as a single mature flower to look at. A huge disappointment for perennial lovers. The “seasonal display” turned out to be nothing more than rows of the most common of small annuals repeatedly planted side by side in straight rows -- wholly unimaginative and disappointing for anyone hoping to view flower beds and borders that would inspire new ideas.

If you are interested in roses or if this is your only garden option then it is worth paying the admission fee and visiting for a couple of hours. There are better gardens to see however, in other Pennsylvania cities. Hershey Gardens gets 3 stars because it does have some beautiful areas and views. The rose garden is tops. Hershey Gardens is well maintained. It is also one of the towns most enjoyable activities available to seniors. But while there is much available garden space, that space does not live up to its potential despite it being an older garden with a constant stream of visitors all paying admission fees. If they would reinvest some of their profit into building some more hardscapes and surround them with perennial borders, Hershey Gardens could easily match other 5 star gardens in the state. Until then, in my opinion it deserves an average rating.

We made a visit today to the Hershey Gardens after learning that we could get a discounted ticket with purchasing a ticket to the The Hershey Story Museum on Chocolate Avenue.

At this time of year, they should not be charging the full price - whether you get a discount at the museum or pay full price just to see the gardens.

I get that they need funds to continue operations, and I know I came at an odd time of year, but when walking outside, we paid more to see the vistas of the town from the hillside there than we did of anything within the gardens.

However, the butterfly atrium was the best part and was included in the admission price. That was fun to see the different butterflies. They flew all around, landing on the flowers, plants, and sometimes the people. Pictures were allowed. We had to do a butterfly check to make sure none decided to hitchhike out of the atrium!

There was a small giftshop, more dedicated to plants and garden items than any real Hershey souvenirs.

It was a nice visit. However it needs a way to draw a better reaction in the non-flowering months (like a greenhouse for example).

The Gardens are beautiful, and were great to walk through. But my family of 5 did have a major disappointment here. We purchased tickets to see the butterflies and, after waiting for over than hour, were told that strollers were not permitted inside the exhibit with infant strollers. After receiving this bad news, we were further told that we could, alternatively, "look through the windows of the gift shop and see the butterflies " which was not what we had in mind when we paid over $30,00 for tickets that we now could not use. We have previously taken strollers through butterfly attractions at other locations, and this anti-infant policy took us by surprise.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. Please allow me a moment to explain the reasons why strollers are not allowed inside the Butterfly Atrium. The first reason is because strollers will inadvertently collide with plants and butterflies along the path, killing or injuring them. Also, because we feature non-native butterflies, we must follow strict USDA guidelines, which dictates no live butterfly may leave the Atrium, as the possibility of contamination could pose a risk to our environment. Strollers, heavy coats and wedding dresses are not allowed inside because butterflies tend to hide and exit in the hard-to-see places on these items. Since our Butterfly Atrium is relatively small, most of our guests with infants choose to carry them inside, or simply take turns going into the Atrium, having one adult stay outside with the stroller/infant at a time. I am sorry your visit was disappointing. We thank you for your understanding.

Went to the Gardens to see what we thought would be a beautiful Christmas display (inside and out). We did the 15 minute tour allowed for the butterfly atrium, the guide was very informative and it was beautiful, but other than that, not much to see. The inside poinsettia display was pretty but small. The outside gardens were not decorated for the holidays. The CandyCane Cottage was viewable by peering through the windows (open weekends only) with no outdoor Christmas decorations visible. We walked around the gardens because it was a beautiful day, but really nothing to see at this time of year. Disappointed for the cost of admission. Upside was we were able to social distance with few in attendance.

My daughter and I booked a Spa Vacation Package at the Hershey Hotel, and it included complimentary tickets to this garden. I'm not sure I would have paid full admission price for this attraction, but it definitely was a nice bonus. The main building has a butterfly atrium with several hundred butterflies of various species. It was fun to watch them fly around, and there were some nice plants to see as well, including a cacao tree, an undomesticated poinsettia (very different from the kinds we buy at Christmas!), and a vanilla plant. Elsewhere in the building there's a small gift shop that was fun to browse for a couple of minutes. Outdoors, you'll find a large rose garden that was delightful to stroll through—my daughter and I spent time smelling each of the many varieties (the most fragrant are the pink Tiffany roses, followed by a fiery reddish-pink variety called Dolly Parton). Afterwards, we walked along some of the gentle trails on the property, featuring interesting trees, native grasses, and some more flowers. The only part of the garden that was a bit of a letdown was the children's garden--it seemed a bit neglected in places. But in all, we had a nice time.

It was warm and beautiful on Saturday, October 10, so we decided that a trip to Hershey Gardens was the perfect way to spend the day. Our daughter has a membership, and they go often, this was the second trip for us.

Masks are necessary to enter, as one goes through an inside lobby. However, the Gardens are vast, and outside, social distancing is no problem, so most people took their masks off. It was a Saturday, but, still, we were surprised at the number of people. Everybody seemed to leave any anxieties at the door, as we saw many happy, relaxed faces.

Upon entering, the little ones, immediately turned right, and skipped to their favorite area, which was the "Children's Garden". It is very well designed, with fun and education in mind. I think that we, adults, enjoy it as much as they do, and I noticed quite a few people without children strolling around. After that, we visited the Japanese Garden. Many benches there, and many people relaxing on the benches, and basking in the calmness and serenity. Next, we visited the Rose Garden. The colors and fragrances were like from a romantic novel.

Lastly, we went through the autumn flowers, which were plentiful, lush and colorful. Also, noticed some very interesting looking gourds and squashes. The six of us had a lovely afternoon.

We loved our visit to the Hershey Gardens and Butterfly Atrium today!! The stroll through the gardens was magnificent despite the it still being too early for most flowers.
And the Butterfly Atrium was a special treat! Take your camera to photograph the colorful beauties of nature.
A very special treasure was being guided through the Atrium by Michael. He is very, very knowledgeable on butterflies and was a joy to chat with. He also takes beautiful pictures of the butterflies that he is kind enough to show. Will definitely ask for him next time we visit!
