More
The Pennsylvania Lumber Museum, administered by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, tells the story of PA’s rich lumbering history and promotes the ongoing care, management, and recreational use of its forests. Museum exhibits, all-new after a $5.6 million renovation conducted in 2015, feature thousands of objects ranging from prehistoric stone tools to early chain saws. Interactive exhibits simulate chopping and sawing a tree, piloting a log raft and racing locomotives. The historic logging camp on the 160-acre museum property includes a 70-ton Shay locomotive and a 1910 Barnhart log loader. Our rustic log cabin build by the CCC showcases the program’s iconic craftsmanship. Other exhibits include a steam-powered sawmill, birch still, Brookville engine, and Sustainable Forestry Trail. The museum is open year-round; Wednesday through Sunday, 9 to 5. Please join us on the first full-weekend in July for our annual Bark Peelers' Festival- our biggest event of the year!

We really enjoyed the excellent exhibits, both inside and out. The interpretive signage is very well done so you can do a self guided tour. Allow at least an hour to see everything. Be sure to watch the introductory video.

Went there Oct 22. Nice place. The interior has that wonderful pine wood smell. Good displays. When you go outside the equipment is great to see. Things I had never seen before. Worth the price.

was not on my Bucket List but much to my astonishment I was entranced by the history of our rural Pa. It was almost destroyed by the Lumber industry as in many countries as it provided jobs and wood to export. However we were smart...More

While camping, our friends found this place while traveling Rt.6 on their way back from Gettysburg. They went the day before us and were impresses, so they took us. The main building was beautiful and they had lots of information about lumber in Pa. There...More

Very cool festival to experience. There's so much history in that area and it's nice to be able to learn some things while on vacation. Absolutely beautiful grounds.

This is just a lumber museum. Well, not exactly. This is more of an experience than a museum. If you are a rail fan, this is a must see. Oh, it is open year round.
