About
The Tom Ridge Environmental Center (TREC) is an educational center dedicated to teaching visitors about the unique 3,200 acres of Presque Isle and the many different forms of life that inhabit the peninsula. TREC also serves as a center for research -- contributing to conservation efforts and promoting environmental awareness, helping to preserve the unparalleled beauty of Presque Isle, the site of Pennsylvania’s only seashore. While some facilities along the Great Lakes offer environmental education and others do research, none offer research, education, and visitor services in one place, making TREC a unique destination for learning, wonder, and fun. TREC is open year-round and offers free admission to its changing interactive exhibits, glass-enclosed tower, and orientation movie. Learn about the history of Presque Isle and how you can contribute to keeping it pristine and beautiful.

This is very interesting if you are looking for something to do for an hour or so especially if it is a nice day and you can go up in the tower where there are beautiful views.

Only the Gift Shop was open
Mar 2021
We enjoyed this gift shop - it had a variety of items for every age and every pocketbook. It carries good quality tee shirts, sweatshirts, etc. , as well as souvenirs. There is also some very nice artwork.

Don't waste your time unless you're addicted to posters ! What a waste of Goverenment money ! They seem to make their money off of the over priced gift shop ! I have been visiting this site for quite a few years hoping they would use this space to the capacity it has. This is nothing less than a place to dump money ! I can see why Tom Ridge changed his vote. The Democrats must have something on him too ! Don't waste your day ! Go to Sara's and get a cone or camp at Sara's campground for a memorable family experience ! Bypass this waste of space !

Limited Access due to COVID-19
Jul 2020
We wanted to go up in the tower but the only part open right now are the restrooms and the 1st floor. It was free and we did get our lighthouse passport stamps here.

Rainy day activity
Mar 2020 • Family
I took my children here for something to do on a rainy day. There is a children’s center with books and puzzles plus some other activities. Most of the nature exhibits were not working/broken or being repaired. Not a ton to do but it occupies my 2 and 4 year old for an hour or so. The tower is fun to go in and you get a nice view of the bay.

Interesting history of Presque Isle
Oct 2019
Interesting displays, videos, and a good learning room for children all for free. Our 11 year old grandson was too old for the kid’s room but he really enjoyed the rest of it. Be sure to ask to tour the fish and turtle area, he liked it. When you are finished, you can take a leisurely drive around Presque Isle, ride bikes, walk, picnic, or enjoy the beaches.

Great source of information on area's history and a beautiful view of Lake Erie and surrounding area.
Oct 2019
We traveled to the Tom Ridge Environmental Center upon the recommendation of family with whom we were visiting.

The Center offers a large and fascinating degree of historic information about the region, especially Lake Erie, and the great ongoing efforts to preserve the area's natural landscape and habitats.

An observation deck allows a clear view of Lake Erie, Presque Isle, and the surrounding area. Gorgeous view in the fall!

Very nice place to go to learn about the lake and surrounding areas. The fact that this is FREE is even better! Nice place to take kids on rainy Summer day!

Great for a family visit.
Jul 2019
Most Erie residents don't bother to visit this facility and are making a mistake. It has a lot to offer for kids and adults and is very accessable and has many interesting environmental exhibits that are relative to the immediate area.
