For a change of pace, we stopped at the Andrew J. Conner Nature Center in Asbury Woods. What a peaceful and quiet nature preserve. We picked up a trail map and proceeded to a trail behind the Nature Center. We walked a portion of the Guided Trail through the woods. It was nice and cool under the canopy of trees. There were birds flying around the low growth brush and landing on limbs for us to view. We connected to the Nuthatch Trail and then the Boardwalk Trail that exited to the parking lot. This was our first visit and definitely not our last. There are numerous trails. Some are short, such as .25 miles, while the longest was 2.2 miles, one way. The trails are dirt trails and boardwalk trails. A great place for families with children. Let the youngsters identify flora and fauna and help them out as to what they are viewing. Multiple visits that correlate with the seasons would be another way to schedule your trips.

TIP: Wear appropriate footwear to cope with terrain (dirt, wet ground, etc.)

???: Can you identify the “Beech” trees? (Look for the trees with the smooth blue-grey colored bark. Unfortunately, some of the trees are carved with initials and dates.

We hit Asbury Park on our way out of town and it was a huge hit! We had our young puppy and children with us on our trip and wanted to tire them out before we got on the road. The nature center is not pet-friendly so we split up and just took the kids. Inside there was a small, but lovely, display of live, local wildlife. We also walked the boardwalk trail and then took the self-guided trail for a total of about 90 minutes. We all got to enjoy some light exercise, see the beautiful trails, and our youngest child and puppy both slept the entire 3 hour drive home.

This is the perfect place (and SO convenient) to enjoy nature in as many ways as you choose! There is a wonderful experience in nature for the family inside and outside the main center (which has a "live roof"!), plus miles of trails for walking, running, X-country skiing and snowshoeing. Dogs are welcome but should be leashed and "cleaned up after ___". And there's a wonderful new boardwalk for all ages who may not be able to handle a more rugged terrain.

Every SJW in town is now bringing their pitbulls to Asbury Woods and they are ruining it for everyone. I have seen three people nearly get attacked by these dogs at Asbury Woods. When are people going to accept that these dogs are ANIMALS with animal instincts? Everythings okay with them until it's not. Asbury Woods really needs to post a sign that says "Aggressive Dog Breeds NOT allowed" before they end up getting sued. It has totally ruined our entire walking experience as I feel I now need a gun just to take a walk here.

Every addition is done with class. The building offer education and exploration for the little ones while the woods themselves provide infinite opportunities for fun and adventure.

Asbury Woods offers many trails through the woods, you will be able to see deer, turkeys, small critters and many different types of birds. They have a small board walk trail if you do not want to get your shoes dirty. they have a small nature center with hands on displays and a few animals can be seen. Every Saturday they have a hands on animal show that is wonderful for small children. which is free to attend. Also you want to see what type of seasonal activities they have going on, snow shoe hikes, cross country sking for the winter, or night activities to see animals at night are a few.

Took my dog on a nice fall day and there were tons of photographers. There is a nice mix of board walk, fields, woods, marsh, steams, etc. I felt safe walking there by myself. There is a fun playground and public restrooms. The visitor center has nice gardens and a fun growing roof.

This is a great place to hike with kids. There are nice built wooden plank trails so you don't have to worry about mud! They also have a nature center with a gift shop and nice rest rooms. Across the street you can also hike behind Asbury Barn. Lots more trails on that side! They lead to a nice bridge across a creek. Some of these trail have wood planks but there are spots that don't.

I am a fan of presque isle and the frontier park arboretum so I was eager to see what Asbury woods was like. The trails as noted in the picture attached are marked at the trailhead with a map posted and there are trail markers along the paths. There are multiple short little paths off each other. Outside the heavily wooded path are pavilions for picnicking , children's parks tennis courts and basketball courts. Off one trail is a nature center. The paths are loose unpaved there are some wooden bridges (mind the loose boards) and muddy areas after a rain so dress accordingly. There are signs upon entering warning to wear insect repellent and about Lyme disease and the recommendation to shower soon after returning home. The paths are woody shaded and some areas a bit overgrown which I guess is part of the charm it feels more remote than the afore mentioned parks. There is definitely a different vibe being out alone there you could go a mile before you came across someone else which can be creepy. But on the other hand if that is your way of unplugging then it would suit. I imagine if you go out there a lot you get to know the layout better and you might get more comfortable there. The dog loved it and was required by postings to be leashed which was fine. All in all it is best enjoyed in a small group and the paths felt like those used for cross country meets so it brought back fond memories. All in all if you like a more remote secluded walk this is your place. I am sure fall and the amazing autumnal colors would be stunning.
