About
Lost in the deep woods sheltering the Manatawny and Ironstone Creeks is a mythical secret valley. Though today only white-tailed deer, great blue heron, and bald eagles know the beauty of this legendary land, it was once the province of pioneers and patriots. Their stories can be heard in the soft winds whispering through the tall trees and towering trestles of the Colebrookdale Railroad - a magical, forgotten railway to the heart of this Secret Valley. The "Secret Valley Line" is your ticket to a place and time when iron rails connected a divided people and the heart of the nation pulsed with the potent energy of the steam locomotive. Completed by soldiers home from the Civil War just four months after the Transcontinental Railroad united the East and West, the Colebrookdale is a record of epic engineering and heroic human drama. Eight-point-six miles long and a century-and-a-half back in time, the Secret Valley Line beckons you to experience for yourself the unexpected treasures of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Beautiful train and station. Their remodel of the train station is impeccable and lovely. Lots of attention to detail which makes the experience quite enjoyable. Many different options including dining cars, lounging cars, coach cars, and more. The Twas the Night Before Christmas ride with Santa was perfect for kids. I would say it is a little pricey but the duration of the trip, overall quality of the train (decorated so beautifully), and service beats other local options. We were served free hot chocolate and a chocolate chip cookie. The kids got a nice little teddy bear from Santa when they handed in their provided "wish list". Scenery is not spectacular, but pleasant and mostly in the woods. Ordering the tickets was easy however, with a family of 3, we were forced to sit next to someone we did not know, as they also had a family of 3. Parking is easy right next to the station, however, the chains were up and we could not enter until the train came back. It would have been nice to know that prior to arriving as we traveled a couple hours to get there and we were early. With very little parking surrounding the area, we had to drive around until we could enter the parking lot (almost an hour after we arrived). Their turnaround time took longer than expected. Maybe due to staff shortage? Not sure, but we were required to be there 30 minutes prior to boarding however, we were not able to board the train until pretty well the time we were scheduled to depart. So, we were pretty cold by then as we had been waiting for about 45 minutes. Nice seating area to wait. They had a fire pit and it would have been nice to have a fire going. Overall, we'd definitely go again. The experience of the open car was nice. You could walk to the end of the train and step onto a very nicely decorated open car. Chilly, of course, but so nice!!

Beautiful train and station. Lots of attention to detail which makes the experience quite enjoyable. Many different options including dining cars, lounging cars, coach cars, and more to cater to your desired trip. The polar express with Santa was perfect for the kids. I would say it is a bit pricey but the duration of the trip, overall quality of the train, and service beats other local options. Scenery is not spectacular, but pleasant and mostly in the woods. We did not have a full car which gave us a lot of space. I would be hesitant taking the family in a completely full car so would try to schedule a trip if the online seat map showed some extra space. The online ordering process was very easy. Parking is easy right next to the station, however, it does look like the lot could fill up so give yourself some extra time to make sure you get a parking spot.

Our fall foliage excursion on 10/22/22 in the deluxe coach was a delightful step into the past. The station area as well as the cars inside were so colourfully decorated. An auditory history, offered on the ride out, is full of valuable info, but turn hearing aide volumes up. Also be aware that the portable restrooms, outside the station area, are elevated - a few steps to access. The entire staff made this a fun & happy experience. We were very pleased w/ the Sr. price of $50 for the deluxe coach which allows one to move the seat's back the opposite direction. This meant we 3 could face each other. It takes a little while for servers to deliver your menu order. I'm assuming that's because there are several cars to serve, some of which are receiving lunch, and probably only 1 kitchen area. In conclusion, we will be returning for a future excursion.

December 31, 2021, 1:00pm train-

This was our first visit to Colebrookdale and what a day it was! I purchased our tickets as Christmas gifts. My father was supposed to travel to Durango, Colorado but Covid happened and his locomotive ride there didn’t happen:(. Colebrookdale to the rescue…I gave him a ticket to ride with the engineer. He had a fabulous day!! The other 6 of us rode in the Parlor car with Judy, our cabin steward. She was awesome! Pleasant, polite, friendly and just plain nice!! We were gifted with amazing piano carols throughout the entire ride. Thank you “Matt” for sharing your amazing talent. Much appreciated the relaxing atmosphere while taking in the scenery on and off the train.
The complimentary beverage I chose was the peppermint hot cocoa. YUM! The cheese and cracker plate was a nice touch as were the mixed nuts. The cheesecake at the half way mark, awesome!!! While I’m not a champagne drinker, it was a nice touch as well.
We were able to visit every car on our walk to the open air car. We were able to ask my dad how his trip was going as he transferred to the other end for the return trip. He was loving every minute of it!
We traveled with three young people, age 22, 20 and 19, as well as my dad’s gf. Everyone enjoyed the day!
This experience is run by volunteers! They provide this experience because of their passion to preserve history. As a history teacher, I appreciate their efforts. Yes, the experience is pricy however, restoring these cars to the condition you see is not cheap! And those two steam engines they are working on require lots of time and money so it’s expected to be pricy.
Last, the ride was smooth and steady! Our engineer was a master of his craft. Job well done!!
We will be back:)
Happy New Year!

What a GREAT idea, but for the ticket price of $190 per couple (Parlor Car) we expected a lot more. For example, it took half the trip to get a single beverage and the car wasn’t full. The site said Brunch was Optional but then we received two different feedbacks from their office and their email. They said one bathroom was vandalized so lots of other cars kept coming up to the front bathroom; and the bathroom was shut down due to so many users before the Parlor Car folks had a chance to use. The Parlor Car looks so great but then it had: Harry Potter stuff everywhere which (I’m a Potter fan), but technically wasn’t the theme we signed up for. Then, they had pamphlets strewn around the piano area like they were just tossed in the corner. They did add Pergolas since we were here last year which is pretty. The parking lot needs an entrance & exit; right now it’s one only way in or out which is tight for bigger trucks and vehicles. And very congested between train sessions. The staff ranged from excited and happy to be there to staff grumbling and lots of “Ya”. Not that it matters except you’re charging people a LOT for a themed experience. In summary— GREAT CONCEPT, but missing some dazzle dazzle. I hope you consider the minor changes to align to your current costs.

Beautifully restored station, train cars and friendly staff made for a lovely afternoon. The piano player in the Parlor car was fantastic and the background music really completed the nostalgic feel. The piano player doubled as historian and shared some interesting facts while the train prepared to reverse. It was a pleasant slow-ish ride thru the country. We opted for Parlor Car seating which was the highest fare, but it was in the fanciest car and included a charcuterie plate, cheese cake and a beverage in a souvenir glass, plus as I mentioned, the piano is located in the Parlor car. And, importantly, there is also a toilet room in the Parlor car. We felt that the ticket price was a good value. Other nice touches for all guests are golden tickets and a flower stem when you get off. Looking forward to another ride on the Colebrookdale.

Definitely not worth the money paid today, will think twice before returning or suggesting

My husband and I treated ourselves to a Wine & Cheese excursion on the Colebrookdale RR for our anniversary. It was delightful! We had reservations in the Parlor Car where there was live piano music throughout our journey. Julie, the woman who played the piano, also gave historic facts about the train and the area. The 100 year old car was beautifully refurbished. To add to our ride, we were served 4 wines to taste which were paired up with nicely with 4 types of cheese. The experience was very relaxing. We felt like we had gone back to another era.

My family was supposed to be in Europe at the end of October, beginning of November, taking the ride of a lifetime on The Orient Express. Because of the pandemic, it was canceled.

HOWEVER: We found what is surely becoming The Orient Express Of The West in The Colebrookdale Railroad!

Who would expect to discover such a gem in Boyertown, Pennsylvania? (Then again, why not?)

This train is GORGEOUS. President Nathaniel Guest, his employees, and the volunteers who work the railroad have dedicated themselves to offering the highest quality rail excursion experience in the United States - and they're well on their way. The parlor car is astonishing, with its carved mouldings, stained glass windows, elegant European-style furniture, beautiful chandeliers, its bar decorated with a sculpture, a baby grand piano for live performances...

ALL of the cars show a level of dedication to detail and design that you'd be hard-pressed to find on any other train line, and we've ridden MANY of them. Even the engine has a delicate golden winged creature perched on the front. The current ticket office is delightful, and another is under construction at the stop in Pottstown. But there are plans for far, far more expansion with regard to both the ticketing areas and the train itself.

Do yourself a favor, and climb aboard! With the holiday season upon us, tickets are going to go quickly, and because of the pandemic, seats are limited. I realize I sound like a commercial, but I can't say enough about this train and the staff who keep it running. Boyertown is so very lucky to have the Colebrookdale!

Journica, Thank you for all the kind words. This is literally what we are striving for when we set out to achieve the title of "the highest quality rail excursion experience in the United States." We hope to be able to host you and your family again in the future. Make sure to try and at least come back next year to see the updates we will surely make over the off season this winter.

We took the almost two hour ride to get on a late September ride and we’re not disappointed. The wait to get on the train was a little disorganized but once we got on the train we enjoyed ourselves in the Parlor car, which I highly recommend over the other cars. We had a piano player, refreshments, complimentary champagne and snacks; you even get to keep the souvenir beer mug and wine glass! Our 16yr. son even enjoyed himself. We’ll worth the money and enjoyed ourselves.
