About The Amish Experience
Amish Country Tours is the oldest operating tour company in Amish Country, and the only operator with certified guides. Far from the commercial clutter of Route 30, the Amish Experience at Plain & Fancy Farm sits on Route 340 between Bird-in-Hand and Intercourse, a non-commercial AAA designated Scenic Cultural Byway, surrounded by Amish farms. Our exclusive Amish Visit-in-Person Tour is the only opportunity of its kind to allow for close interaction with the Amish at work, at milking time, and in the home, and the only tour designated by the County of Lancaster as an official Heritage Tour. It is limited to 14 guests on our mini-shuttles.

Staff was very friendly. Our tour guide, Bruce, took us around the area and we stopped at a local farm. He was very informative and answered all of our questions. The movie is great and very innovative on screen and special effects usage. The school house and farm house tour have so many interesting items. It was a fun and educational experience. Wish we had more time!

I brought my 85-year-old Dad, who lives at Willow Valley in memory care, along for a beautiful day together in the Amish countryside, to learn more about their lives. Our tour guide, Jay, gave us just the kind of day I was looking for! As it turned out, my Dad and I were the only passengers on the 14-passenger shuttle, so we got a private tour!! Jay provided a continuous narrative through the 90-minute bus ride, pausing to answer our questions and to let us take photos. Jay was so knowledgeable, calm, and patient. We learned so much about the Amish way of life, their history, religion, work, education, and culture. We were lucky to see an Amish "Honey Wagon" (a manure spreader) move across the road and into a field, driven by an Amish farmer and pulled by a team of horses and mules. Next, the movie, "Jacob's Choice" was shown in an intimate theater on the Amish Experience property, and included very creative special effects, bringing the movie to life. It provided more in-depth information about the Amish, their religious persecution, their lifestyle, and the choice each teen must make following Rumspringa at age 16. Finally, Jay led our tour of the one-room-school house and Amish homestead (also on the property) ....again, we received a private tour! We sat in the schoolhouse as Jay described a typical day at school for the 1st through 8th-graders. We then toured the two-story home, where Jay continued our education, showing us Amish clothing and home furnishing, and described how they heat and light their homes, and other interesting facts about their day-to-day lives. I highly recommend The Amish Experience, and have told many friends in my hometown about it. I plan to bring my husband on a tour in the near future! I feel very lucky to have had Jay as our tour guide!
