About
Birds of Prey Experiences - By appointment only. Up close personal encounters with amazing birds of prey that will delight and amaze and I guarantee they will have a great time. My customer comments say it all. Sorry we are not a centre where you can turn up at any time for a look around. Our experiences are pre-booked. My birds of prey days give lots of handling and up close experiences. I have small groups of up to six participants (20-30 are not uncommon elsewhere). We concentrate on being with the birds - handling, flying, feeding and finding out all those special fascinating facts. I like lots of questions and delve into my 45 years of falconry experience to answer them. I have a great location here in the countryside, marvelous birds and a generous welcome. This is a Birds of Prey Experience That Won't Disappoint - This is A Gift As Special As You Are!

I received a 'Bird On The Hand' experience as part of my Birthday present from my husband and I am so glad he did so as the experience was absolutely awesome and we couldn't recommend it highly enough.

Hubby had done quite a bit of research and this particular Falconry experience seemed the best by far as they are only done in small groups. There were only 5 participants and 3 spectators in our group which meant you got to handle the birds more and it was more of a personal experience rather than being in a large group as other locations offer.

We were travelling approx. 50 miles from the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border and wanted to make sure that we were not late for the start time but arrived at approx. 30 minutes early. We were greeted by Duncan who showed us to the Birds of Prey and told us to take a look around at them all whilst we were waiting for the other participants to arrive. What a great opportunity that was and a very welcome bonus along with meeting Wallace the dog too.

About 5 minutes before the start time our host Charlotte came to us and we wandered over to the meeting point. Once everybody had arrived, she took us for a tour around all the different Birds of Prey, telling us their names, breed and a brief description of them which was very inciteful.

It was then time to don the leather falconry gloves and start the handling of the Birds of Prey. We started off with a Tawny owl and a Eurasian Eagle Owl and then followed on with a Falcon, Red Kite and the finale was a Buzzard. During the experience we were led into the 'tunnel' and this part of the experience was absolutely awesome and an experience we shall never forget. Elvis the Eurasian Eagle Owl flew between my husband and myself, with us only being a few inches apart.

We cannot recommend this Falconry centre enough. There are lots of experiences to choose from and we will definitely be back. It is definitely worth paying that little bit more than other locations out there as this company offer smaller groups which makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.

A huge thank you to Charlotte, Andrew, Duncan and Wallace along with all the Birds of Prey obviously for allowing us to make some very special memories.

Great day visiting the falconry centre.

Visited in a group of two adults and two children age 9 & 7. One other person joined our group.

I spoke to Andrew via phone beforehand to ask about minimum age and he was very reassuring that rather than a strict minimum age, if children are enthusiastic and able to listen to instructions then the experience will be tailored for everyone in the group. Our guide was Charlotte who was so welcoming and knowledgeable and great with all ages. Sometimes when you take children somewhere that's also for adults, you feel pressure to keep them quiet and not in the way for other people (and I totally understand this as no one, including me, wants to turn up at an expensive experience then have to spend the whole time catering for a little kid you don't even know!). However with such a small group everyone got plenty of chance to 'have their turn' and Charlotte had time to help my younger child hold the birds but it wasn't at the expense of the other person who joined our group getting their chance to hold the birds and do stuff like have Elvis flying over their heads (a real highlight).

The experience was cancelled twice which was unavoidable due to a bad storm and avian flu. Both times I phoned and easily rearranged. I feel like if there's any issues before the day you could call just Andrew and he would be keen to resolve them and accommodate you. Both times that I rearranged there was a backlog of couple of weeks or so of fully booked weekends before we could get in, but this is totally understandable with the small group sizes and the small business nature. In fact it's good to know they are not squeezing extra groups in at the expense of the birds and overall experience.

The birds are clearly cared for and loved.

My daughter was very interested by the peregrine falcons so Charlotte brought one out at her request. It felt like the day was really tailored to the visitors rather than following a set script. There was one rain spell so Charlotte brought us into the log cabin for a sit down with the burrowing owls Cheese & Pickle which was great fun.

Over all I would definitely recommend. An experience we are unlikely to recreate elsewhere, really glad we came.

I have always dreamed of having a falconry experience and my dream came true as I was gifted a full day experience for my 50th Birthday. The groups for the experience are limited to 6people to handle the birds with the opportunity of having a guest to stand close by (for a small fee) to take any photographs and video of the event. Due to the small size of the groups then we could hold each bird at least x3 times. We flew owls of various sizes from either post to glove or glove to glove and various different raptors. I will not go into details as I do not wish to spoil the surprise. Both Andrew and his Son Duncan provided expert knowledge of each of the birds and welcomed any questions that you may have. The location is perfect for falconry with plenty of green fields. In fact you will see wild raptors in the air high above the site! The variety of different raptors available means that another visit will be on the cards to experience the other birds. A very special up-close and personal experience which will be imprinted as a memory.

I was given the 'Owl on the Hand' gift experience to celebrate a milestone birthday and it certainly didn't disappoint! I had an amazing time seeing the different owls and being able to get up close to them and learn so much about them. Duncan was so knowledgeable and friendly that the time just flew by!
I would highly recommend this for any owl-lover - it was very good value for money (according to the purchasers) and was a priceless experience for me; I have some very precious memories. My husband was able to come too and share the experience and he also thoroughly enjoyed it. It could not have been better.
Thank you so much to Duncan and Andrew for making this such a special, memorable experience.

I booked the Falconry Adventure (full day) package and what a wonderful experience it was!

We got to handle nearly a dozen different birds of prey (Owls, Hawks and even an Eagle!). The staff were very warm and friendly and accommodating. The small group sizes allows for a very up-close-and-personal experience with the birds, all within a lovely part of the world with good wide open vistas.

The 'walk in the woods' with the Harris Hawk amongst the trees was especially fun.

I would absolutely recommend this to anyone with any kind of curiosity about these beautiful creatures, even if you only come as 'an observer'.

Bring a camera and if you have them binoculars (to see these birds properly as they fly). Highly recommended.

Thank you so much Duncan and Andrew for your hospitality.

I purchased the child (+supervisor) experience for my grandson as a tenth birthday present, and I don’t think I could have made a better choice.
The price to start with at £75 plus £9.50 for the gift voucher pack seemed reasonable especially when you read the reviews on TA. The voucher pack when it arrived was an excellent gift to give to my grandson on his birthday, a very good looking voucher and a smart looking miniature glove with bell and jess in a god quality presentation box seemed good value for the money.
On the day we attended two children along with three adults were flying the birds and with such a small group it gave each person a chance to fly each bird twice. The knowledge Andrew our host was excellent and the interaction with the people flying the birds, both adult and child was very very good.
I’m still not sure that after a full half day frying owls and raptors if the barn owl was due to fly but as my grandson had mentioned a few times that barn owls were his favourite bird a barn owl arrived for the last flight. Fantastic.
On the return journey home my grandson confided that it was one of his best days ever, what more can you ask for a birthday present.
Brilliant experience for young and old.

Whilst looking for accommodation for our wedding weekend we came across Barn Owl Hollow which turned out to be a wonderful place to stay, so peaceful and that little bit different and special.

It was this that made us become aware of the Bird on the Hand Falconry Experiences at this same venue and we are so pleased that it did. We booked a private group session for our family the day after our wedding and we all had the most incredible time.

Our group was comprised of children under ten, a teenager and adults and everyone of us, regardless of age was filled with delight as numerous beautiful birds flew towards us and landed amiably on our gloves.

As we had fun playing with little owls; were wowed by the skills of much bigger ones, demonstrated so closely we felt the draft from the swoosh of their wings as they swooped by and marvelled at the demonstrations of the falcons and the eagles, all of which we were also able to interact with, we were advised by Andrew and Charlotte who at all times made sure both ourselves and the birds remained safe and comfortable.

These guys also educated us on all kinds of subjects relating to these glorious birds and spent time finding a little about us individually so that they could ensure we all got as much out of the experience as possible.

I can't recommend this experience highly enough. We were all just blown away. Thank you Andrew and Charlotte (and the birds, especially Elvis) for such a wonderful afternoon.

Had a half day Bird on the Hand day, and it was amazing. Couldn’t rate Charlotte highly enough, she was able to answer all our questions and was very engaging. The range of birds is fantastic and the time spent with them felt good value for money. I am excited to go back again. Some real characters in the birds and being able to interact with them was special. Charlotte made sure we were able to get plenty of pictures to remember the day.

I went on a full day falconry experience.

I arrived in the morning at a lovely venue amongst rolling English hills. I was there as part of a small group who had the venue to ourselves.

We were welcomed by our falconer for the day - Charlotte. Over the period of a (genuinely) full day we were introduced to a variety of owls, falcons, hawks and buzzards.

We all got the opportunity to fly and/or handle the birds with plenty of opportunity to take pictures. As a solo traveller Charlotte always made sure she or other members of the group took pictures/video of me interacting with the birds.

Highlights included having an owl flying through the trees centimetres above our heads and between our legs, feeding a falcon on our fist, watching a barn owl hunt for mice, hand feeding burrowing owls and many more.

Charlotte (also behind the Giddy Kipper theatre company) really made the day, she was friendly and knowledgeable and made sure everyone had a great time.

The day included a well catered lunch and as I expressed an interest in the eagle, I got a special treat of feeding it after the main day was finished.

I highly recommend the falconry experience, which is brilliant value for money.
