My husband and I were exploring the town and decided to check out this museum. They did not have regular exhibits in the summer, they had different stations where you could make things. It appeared to be aimed at children, but I sat down to make a small painting. The idea was to leave your painting behind, but choose someone else’s painting to take home. I loved this idea. I took a cool painting of a lion face, a great souvenir. There is also an exhibit dealing with the Underground Railroad on the third floor. They did a nice job with that.…

and be sure to check out the eaves for hidden "treasure" - there are stairs, not sure about elevator, but you feel good supporting this place. Very convenient and only takes an hour or so.

This is a great museum that showcases different artists each month. This in a historical building that was used as part of the underground railway helping slaves escape the south. This is run completely by volunteers and exists by donations.

We had an amazing time at the Bellefonte Art Museum! The Underground Railroad exhibit is extraordinary. A must see in center PA!

My first visit was during Bellefonte's annual Victorian Christmas weekend. Upon multiple returns since, I've never been disappointed. It's a small town museum, so don't expect the National Gallery. But what they have is very good, often has some local tie-in, and multiple rooms allow for the sense of exploration. Go. You'll enjoy it.…
