This little town has a trail along the ocean that is a MUST DO. Our dog loves the water so we had to cut the walk short as dogs must be on leash here and she tried continuously to get down onto the rocks but in the past we have done the entire walk and enjoyed every minute.
Unfortunately, the little waterfront park right near "downtown" has been stripped of all but one picnic table which has a homeless fellow permanently ensconced there so its not a great spot to visit anymore.
Pre-Covid, the joint was always jumpin' here with lots of music and festivals all summer long in the pubs and restaurants. Hard to imagine what the last two summers have been like. For the size of the town, there are some really good restaurants here and we would like to spend a few days here sometime...

This is a place that offers everything in a compact location. You have a candy store, book store, market, beach, seagulls, excellent restaurants - but none of the crowding that you'll find in the more northern cities on the coast. LOVED staying here - but don't tell anyone. Let's keep this beautiful place a secret for the next decade!

The drive along Highway 1 in Oregon from Florence to Yachats is very pretty. Of course the entire Oregon coast is amazing but also know if can get very winding and it is one lane in each direction. There are so many pretty place to stop and it is truly a must visit. Yachats is a sweet little town along the coast and a good place to visit for a few hours or even spend the nite.

We stayed overnight in Yachats and enjoyed a walk along the shore at the curve just ahead of the town. Much of the coastline you can walk to from town is cliffs and gorgeous views over the rock outcroppings. It was July and quite chilly.

This parkland, accessible by taking a right onto Yachats Ocean Road off of highway 101 southbound immediately after you cross over the Yachats River, offers almost sublime panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and rocky coastline. It's a great place for photography, and it's free, too!! Here's a link for more, info:

The Yachats State Recreation Area on the other side of the river is also a grand place for sightseeing.

I live 20 miles south of Yachats so you may suspect my review as biased. Maybe it is, but I'm a native Oregonian that has been up and down the whole of the coast here many, many times, and while it's all good, the 20 miles between Yachats and south to Florence is the best of the best. When you visit you'll find excellent restaurants, interesting shops, many places to camp, informative family-oriented visitor centers, a wide variety of hiking opportunities or just wonderful opportunities to have a relaxing walk on the beach. Whatever your pleasure, if you breathe, you'll love the salt air too!

Beatiful! Gorgeous! Drive up to the top of the promintory and take some pix looking out over the ocean from 800ft up. Better yet, take a picnic, as there's a great park up there. Also take the hike to the cove and visit Devil's Churn. Check high tide, that's when it's best.

We keep coming back to Yachats for its wild coastline. You will find a lot of wild, rocky sections, sea stacks, peninsulas for whale watching, and places where the surf blasts up through a blow hole or a cauldron formed by water and rock. Keep your camera handy! Also, the beaches have plenty of agates and other small stones to find, moreso than sea shells. I always take along a bag for my agate treasures. There are tide pools to explore at low tide. And sometimes, a local from Yachats will draw a large maze or walking labyrinth in the low tide beach where the Yachats River empties into the sea. Access is from the south shore of the river. Along the viewpoints and the 804 trail, we've seen gray whales feeding close to shore in July and spouting as they migrate or feed at any time of year. A favorite trail is the Amanda Trail south of Yachats. Stop by the Cape Perpetua Interpretive Center or get a copy of Day Hikes - Oregon Coast by Bonnie Henderson to find this historic trail.

Devote a day to the multiple coastline features from Yachats south toward Florence. Consider visiting the water features like Devil's Churn and Thor's Well around high tide, if possible. You can duck into every wayside, viewpoint, beach, etc. in this Cape Perpetua Area for wonderful scenery and/or chances to explore. Get close to the ocean at a beach, hike out on the rocks to view sea lions or seek majestic views of the coastline from elevation such as the Heceta Head Lighthouse. You may need to pinch yourself to verify what you are experiencing. Upon seeing our pictures from a day at the coast and some other Oregon locations, a handful of my in-laws could not book a trip fast enough for later in the summer. Go here!

Given that the drive along Highway 1, viewing the Oregon Coast Oregon the section near Yachats is very pretty and certainly does its share of contributing to the wild Oregon Coast's deserved reputation. Of course the entire Oregon coast is amazing but know that stops in this area is worth the time.
