Like many places around the world, the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm was hit by COVID restrictions, according to their website. From what I could gather, they planted fewer tulips this year (2021) than usual, and tickets were sold online only. You choose a time and can come within that hour. Easy to purchase, and they had an individual, family and senior rate. Different prices on weekdays vs weekends - I assume because more activities are available. It does say on the ticket purchasing site that some activities are not available on weekdays.
However, the website/facebook page seemed up to date when it said they had 40% bloom the last week in March, as there were many tulips in bloom but also quite a few that weren't yet blooming. Very efficient entrance, plenty of parking.
There were food booths and some craft booths, and it was difficult to tell if some of them weren't open up for the day yet (it was 10 am when we arrived) or not open at all since it was a weekday.
Hot air balloons at the time we visited were not available, but it looks like they offer tethered rides, which sound fun and interesting, and maybe a good choice for someone who has a fear of heights since it looks like they are just 5 minutes up and down!
Wine tasting was also not available, but on the plus side it was not crowded; you could buy wine and flowers and bulbs and all sorts of souvenirs, and they did have a good selection of food choices.
It's obviously a working farm since people are working while you are wandering the fields. It was interesting to watch the employees thinning out the rows and picking flower bunches to sell.
Part of their acreage has kids rides and a big slide, so just know this if you bring kids - even though your kids under 12 don't have to have a ticket to get in, you will probably be spending money on those rides....
And they do have cute wagons shaped like cows that you can use, free, to haul your little ones around.
There are signs everywhere asking you to not walk over the tulips and stay on the wide paths, but people were in between the skinny little rows taking photos all over the place. I didn't see anyone say anything to all the kids and families who were having their personal photo shoots, which it did look like is a popular activity at this festival - lots of kids and teenage girls dressed up in floral clothing!
Overall, a great experience. If you can stay a while and have a snack or lunch, you can wander the fields more than once. We had just eaten before arriving so we didn't stay long, but it was worth it to see the tulips and watch the workers and guests a bit. Nice to people watch after a year spent mostly indoors due to COVID.

This is a stunning display worth driving all day to see. You WILL need to purchase tickets beforehand, especially on weekends. Pictures fail to capture the sheer intensity of 40 acres of tulips beautifully curated. It is a fair type environment with an array of food trucks and children’s activities. Allow at least an hour and be ready to take spectacular photos.

Very large and well organized tulip farm that is created for family entertainment during the spring. Ample parking and timed-entry ticket control to keep crowds at a reasonable level. Lots of activities for families with children. Lots of carnival-like fast food, tethered hot air balloons, wooden shoe making, beer and wine areas, and gift shop. Vast fields of tulips of all colors. Plants and bouquets available for purchase.
Best to visit when the weather is dry as the fields can be very muddy. If it has recently rained, bring rubber boots!

Driving to Seattle and so glad someone told us about this place . We booked online and spent a good two hours there . Weather was perfect and tulips were maybe 60% In bloom . Have been to the Keukenhoff in Netherlands . This was almost as good in terms of color and enjoyment. Sometimes too much is too overwhelming. Social distancing was hard to expect and so was mask wearing . No enforcement really. Variety of food offered was also just right . We loved our bbq beef brisket brioche. The wine tasting was cute and they have decent wines . I enjoyed seeing the blooms just peeking out and to full bloom. Seeing the workers pick and sort was eye opening . Definitely recommend if you are around here this time of year

If you are in the Woodburn area mid March - May please make sure to go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. We were there early April and it was beyond beautiful. Acres and acres of gorgeous blooming tulips in every color. I cannot imagine the work that goes into making this stunning display. We were 4 adults so we were not interested in the kids events and rides but there is something for everyone. They do serve Wood Shoe Winery wine, which I can't say was great, but hey were were there for the tulips! Well worth it!

This was my first time to the tulip festival. I ordered tickets for my group online. I was surprised they were as expensive as they were- over $20 each! The colors were amazing. It was a peaceful place to walk and talk with friends. I don't think I'll return at that cost, but it was stunning to see once.

Wasn't sure what to expect - I mean, it's 40 acres of flowers. Gotta hand it to them - we were here for a couple hours and it was a lot of fun. Plenty of room for your kids to run (bring the dog, too) and take some beautiful pictures. You can go for a ride in a balloon! You can buy flowers. Bring a snack or buy one, but definitely come and see all they have to offer. Loved it and would definitely try to come back. Get your tickets early and enjoy!

The tulips are beautiful and the parking is good. Great place to take kids. They have tents from different vendors but more fair type vendors. The people at the wine area are very nice but some of the staff are a bit unhelpful. I read on their website that they could ship fresh cut flowers and several people told me no that it was not possible. I persisted and finely found someone that took me to the office and I was able to make two shipments. I also, purchased fresh flowers to take to my hotel and asked if I could get some water for them and basically was told no.

This might be alright if you could get in and out. $5 per person to park. Last 2 miles to get in took 1.5 hours. Can’t get out. Can’t. Get. Out. Miserable way to waste the afternoon sitting in line of cars.

What an awesome surprise! We were driving back to Portland from seeing the giant redwoods and came across this farm. I thought I would have to go to holland to see tulips like this! Definitely worth the stop. We stopped on friday around 1p.m. and there was a lot of people. I'm sure the weekend will be VERY busy.

I am planning to go to Portland on late August. Is it still possible do see the tulips in August? If not, is there any other place with such beautiful gardens to take some photos?

No, tulips bloom in the spring, so April is the time to go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm. In August, I would definitely go to the International Rose Test Garden. It will be busy, but the roses will be spectacular.

No, you will miss the tulip season, but you should be able to see roses at the International Rose Garden in Portland.

Is it wheelchair accessible
WoodenShoeFarm
Woodburn, OR
The majority of our farm is grass, gravel, and dirt, but we have a paved area near our main building. Full accessibility is often determined by weather, durability of your wheelchair or device, and its ability to navigate grass, gravel, and dirt. The position of our tulip fields rotate annually, differing the length between the tulips and the paved area. We have a tram that goes from the main building and drops off at the tulip field and requires a step to get onboard. Weather permitting, we have a tour train for an additional $5 per person that gives a 15-20-minute drive through the fields, also requiring a step to get onboard.

I will be in Oregon around the first week in June will there still be tulip at that time?
WoodenShoeFarm
Woodburn, OR
Hi there,
Traci is correct - our tulips will no longer be in bloom by the first week in June. Traci's suggestions are great ideas for other floral sights to see in Oregon! We hope you enjoy your visit to our beautiful state.

Is drone photography allowed?
WoodenShoeFarm
Woodburn, OR
Hi Joel,
There are a few requirements to flying drones on our property. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires all drone owners to register each drone weighing between .55lbs and 55lbs, so we would ask for your registration number for recreational drones. For commercial drones, we ask for your pilot certification number as well as insurance information, especially if the drone is heavier than 55lbs. You will also need to check in either at the parking booth or at the office so that we can record your information and give you a permission card. This check-in system allows us to keep track of who is flying in the tulip field.
Lastly, there are certain times of day we can’t allow drones to be flown due to crowds. For Friday, Saturday and Sunday flying, drone users will need an early morning or season pass and fly outside of normal hours (before 8am, or after 7pm). This is due to weekend crowds. During the week, flying has similar hours but depends on the number of people in the fields on a given day, so please call ahead.
To recap:
1. Check in at the parking booth or office to leave your name & FFA registration number
2. They will give you a permission card to keep on your person while flying
3. Only certain hours are available to fly due to crowds.
Thank you! Looking forward to having you out to visit.

I noticed TripAdvisor posts in May 2017 about Oregon tulip visits last year. If the posts were made at same the visitors were enjoying the blooms, it appears they are still blooming in early-mid May? Scheduling trip there in couple weeks. Will we be too late? Thank you!

The festival will be going on for one more week - thru May 6. Depending on the weather it could be extended. Since our weather has been cooler than normal, the flowers have not started to die yet.
