About
Sandy Island is a small cay off Sandy Ground beach in Anguilla. It is quite possibly the most beautiful place one will ever visit. A popular off island getaway, Sandy Island offers visitors a sensational tropical experience. It’s far away enough for that quintessential Robinson Crusoe feeling, yet close enough to stay connected to the mainland. The Restaurant opens daily serving fresh seafood and grilled meats, and the bar is fully stocked with ice cold beers and spirits from around the world.

- KristinaLong Island, New York36 contributionsHad a great time on Sandy Island! We went in the afternoon and had the whole island to ourselves. We had some delicious shrimp and a few drinks and spent the next 2 hours splashing around in the warm water! I highly recommend going when you come to Anguilla. It may be a little pricey, but how many times are you going to lounge on a sandbar this year??Visited November 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 22, 2023
- Karen HSnohomish, Washington9 contributionsSandy Island funHad a great day on Sandy Island. I ate the Rasta plate and my honey had the ribs and chicken combo. Ferry ride is $40 per person and beach chairs are $10 pp before you start ordering be aware that it's already on your tab. Fun day. We rode the boat back with the crew at the end of the day.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 7, 2024

The crew on island is exceptional, fun, and the service was fantastic!! These guys were a riot, we just loved them!! The crayfish was exceptional and the Ship Wreck earned its name (insert big eye emoji here! Ha). We will definitely be back!Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 6, 2024
- India B6 contributionsSandy Island is delightful!I've been to Sandy Island twice, and each time we've had a wonderful experience. The food is amazing, and the staff is always friendly, knowledgeable, and accommodating. A special mention to Dean, the manager, who is incredibly personable and truly enhances the overall experience. We've enjoyed the snapper, lobster, and the curry shrimp appetizer—each of which I highly recommend.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 24, 2024

The boat trip is exciting but can be quite rough. There is a restaurant and sun beds on the island. Everything seems to be run by one organisation. A sun bed with a mattress costs 20$!!! The restaurant has a varied menu but the prices are astronomically high. We paid 123$ for 2 salads, 2 cocktails and transport for 2...a bit too much. But we were also entertained by two dancers and a band so that made our 3 hour stay enjoyable.

If you are not a hedge fun mogul who flew Net jets to Anguilla and chartered your own yacht to stop for lunch on Sandy Island (and money really doesn’t matter to you), I would advise you carefully review your lunch check before paying. Our group of 9 people (3 families) found our final lunch bill bore no resemblance to the menu prices posted on line. Prices were significantly inflated and seemed based more on the imagination of the girl adding food up than on fair value of the meal. A too late questioning of the veracity of the bill met w statements like.....”let us take a photo of your credit card and we will credit some money back to you”......yeah, right. Fool me once......

This felt a bit over-hyped. It was a quick boat ride from Sandy Ground. Once out there, it was windy which made it feel less relaxing. The wind also made the water rougher here than elsewhere on Anguilla, and most people did not go in the water or get to snorkel because of it. My favorite part was walking around the small island, and looking at what lurked in the tide pools.
I found the restaurant to be over-priced. I paid $63 for a lobster - one half was small and dried out, the other a decent size and moist. They basically charge you whatever they want as they say it's by the pound. That felt like a wasted splurge, as it was one of my least favorite meals and the most expensive on Anguilla. Also, they didn't have a drink menu and charged $10 for a beer. Yes, they have to transport everything to the island. I get it. It would help if they were more upfront about prices so you knew more what to expect. All in all, it wasn't as interesting or relaxing as I thought it would be. It's not a must see and do, in my opinion.

Yay, we finally made it to Sandy Island and loved it. The boat ride over was fun and a bargain at just $10 per person round trip. Once we arrived we ordered drinks at the bar and made our way to the rooftop which became our home for the rest of the day. The sun was out full but the constant breeze made it comfortable and the view was amazing. Some folks were in the water and as inviting as it looked (beautifully clear and mostly calm) it was a tad too cold for me. We found the prices to be quite reasonable and the staff incredibly friendly. My regret is we waited so long to give Sandy Island a try. We will definitely return.

We were charged $40pp for the ride back and forth (out-of-date information suggests this fee is waived with lunch , but it wasn’t). We were amongst the first to place our lunch orders and waited 2.5 hours for the food. The server offered us rum punch to ease the wait - and none of the six we ended up ordering over 3.5 hours were comped. We spent $700 for two adults and three kids for the day and lunch (two lobster salads, but one kid cheeseburger and one ribs in the order as well!). What a terrible shock to get this bill alongside my dreadful sunburn.

The day we decided to visit Sandy Island was unfortunately a rough one at sea. Not ideal for a visit if you have high winds as the journey to and fro can be a treacherous one. Food is great but overpriced as are the beverages. If you get a calm day i'd recommend it but bring your own booze and/or food.

Food was just as good as everywhere else but beware the cost! So first $8 per each little bottle of water. If you come by their water taxi, they charge you $20 per each beach chair. We came by excursion so we did not get charged like everyone else. They also charged us 13% sales tax plus an additional 15% service charged that they claim was not the tip and made us provide a cash tip on top of that. They also made us and the other hotel guests we were traveling with all charge it to one credit card since we came on the same boat. So we had to Venmo one person the money at the end. I came here because of TikTok recommendation but definitely thought it wasn't worth it and trying to save other people from our experience. I also spoke with other people who went there as well and they all said the same thing so I know it wasn't just our experience alone.

We had the whole island to ourselves for about two hours until others showed up.
A little bit of decent snorkeling on the western shore.
For lunch, drinks, and the water taxi out and back, expect to pay about $90 per person.

Just got back from spending an afternoon at Sandy Island. Our group was charged a 12% GST. This new government tax does not go into affect until July 1, 2022. Hope the government sees that money that came out of our pocket months before the tax actually goes into affect. Not sure we will ever be going back unless there is a good explanation for this charge that does not exist yet.

The 8 min boat ride was fun. The bartender was friendly and attentive. My husband and I had the lobster platter for two. The slipper lobster was not to our liking the cray fish and the spinney lobster was good. We had a rum punch which was not very good and a Johnny walker with coke. The beach was a bit windy but we still managed to enjoy the blue clear water. When we got our bill the two drinks was 40.00. The lobster was 130.00 the boat ride was 80.00 and here comes the shocker 28% tax👀which was 70.00 in taxes where in the world do you pay 28% tax on food and a boat ride. This is proposturous. Don’t think I would be visiting again.

We are going to Anguilla in a week and wondering if we should waste our time here. Are these horrible reviews true about this beach bar spot?

Why does it say in Wikipedia and elsewhere online that Sandy Island, Angiulla doesn't exist? They make it sound like it's entirely imaginary!

how long does it take to get to Sandy island? from where in Anguilla can someone take a boat/ferry?
Written September 3, 2016
Guests catch the shuttle from the small pier in Sandy Ground next to the Marine and Customs office. It takes 5 minutes out of the harbour. We look forward to seeing you on beautiful Sandy Island!

Hi, We are headed to Anguilla on our honeymoon August 1-11th in August. I wanted to check out Sandy Island. When you say everything was closed...did you mean the little restaurant on sandy island? I don't like big crowds either, but wanted to make sure I was visiting at a good time. Thank you so so much for any help.

You should be fine in August. I go to St. Martin on a regular basis, most of the business owners will take their own vacation late September and October in between their seasons.
Sandy Island is really just a dot of sand in the ocean, looks like a computer screen saver, totally awesome. While we there we did not eat or drink anything, but it sure smelled good whatever it was that they were cooking.
Anquilla is so beautiful, enjoy!
