We passed by this scenic viewpoint on our way to Multnomah falls hike, but didn't stop due to time constraints. You know you can't see everything..... So next day, I got on my bicycle in Troutdale and rode up Historic US Highway 30 to see it myself! Great ride along the highway and what a great reward!! The view of the Columbia River Gorge is absolutely spectacular (luckily is was a gorgeous day). I met other bicyclists there who ride it every weekend - wow! They told me the views as sunset are spectacular too!

This is arguably the best view in Oregon's Columbia Gorge. It's now called Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint but in the old days was known as Chanticleer Point. A plus is that looking to the east, you have a good view of Crown Point with the Columbia Gorge in the background.

It was a misty day but the view was amazing. I have a fear of heights but was able to enjoy the vistas at this spot.

This is the first viewpoint on the 7 mile journey down Historic 30 and waterfall drive. If the weather cooperates (Oregon?) you will be rewarded with a great view up and down the great Columbia River. It will give you a nice view of your next stop Crown Point Vista House where you can get important information regarding the location and hiking necessary for each fall. This is the first viewpoint on your trip down the avenue of the waterfalls that has sufficient parking. It has a large monument at the entrance relating to Lewis and Clark. Beautiful views when it is clear weather.

Hidden gem off the beaten path. Views as good as the Vista House with almost no other people around.
Views to the East down the Columbia River Gorge were spectacular.

In November it's quite a different view from when we were there in June. Loved all the color of the trees.

Excellent first stop on Hwy 30. Great views of the river and along the bluffs. Nice place to take some scenic shots of Vista House too.

I have visited several viewpoints of the river from Portland to far east of Hood River. This one is the best viewpoint to see the river. If you look the west, you can see the Vista House which is another famous point to see the river, but not as good as this one. You don't need to spend much time just look, feel and enjoy. The river, mountain and the Vista House reach a great combination.
The only tip I would provide, visit it in the afternoon, late afternoon might be better, depends on the weather, cloud/sun.

Best place to go for photos of the gorge. They look like picture post cards. Definitely worth the drive.

We drove along the historic Scenic Highway 30 and just followed the signs. The tourist information center in Troutdale was very helpful, they told use about the route to use.
