I stopped in on a whim, and thought it was really cool. Had no idea how a dredge worked. It was so big. They had gold panning there too. If looking for a fun spot to stop, I would recommend this place.

We got yelled at by the volunteer. Be careful where you stop your car! The lady didn't care that she was yelling and insulting me in front of my children. The dredge is neat and the man in the visitor center was very nice and...More

Good for an hour stopover with the kids, you can climb around this old time dredge and see how mining really worked 100 years ago. Sumpter has a teeny population and the dredge now has a small interpretative center, short trails, and picnic tables. Cute...More

Take a little time to tour the dredge. Being a gold rush junky it was a really impressive piece of equipment. They also will show you how to pan for gold.

I knew what a dredge was but had no idea how big they are and how much damage they did to the soils. When it was operating it must have been like a monster on the river. Nice gift shop. If you have kids go...More

We really enjoyed our visit to the valley dredge. My son and I are big fans of Gold rush so it was fun to actually see a dredge in person. We tried our hand at panning for gold on the property. I believe the gold...More

Sumpter is in a beautiful mountain forest, surrounded by big valleys of green grass. The dredge is an interesting dinosaur that sits in a pond where it is easy to access and free to view. For 19 years it chewed through the valley floor, processing...More

The road to get to Sumpter was much better than expected. We were there on Memorial weekend and were surprised by the huge flea market sale, and multiple home sales, going on throughout town. The dredge is massive and a must-see if you're in the...More
