The first thing you need to know about Dan is that you should contact him immediately and book a trip. His schedule fills up quickly. In peak fishing seasons you won’t get him “next week.” He is also on the water a lot and it may take a few days for him to get back to you. He is in high demand and for good reasons. He’s a great guide, one of the most experienced on the lower Deschutes and other parts of the northwest.
Dan is a patient and knowledgeable guide. On a recent float with my buddy on the lower D, we were pulling huge trout out of the first channel we stopped at. Folks in other boats were passing us, literally, with their jaws open. The lower D is tough to fish and if you get hung up in trees, foul your line or have other issues, Dan will patiently offer a few pointers, get things sorted and have you back to casting again quickly. He guides clients of all abilities and ages. He will adjust the general itinerary accordingly.
Dan’s boat is rigged up nicely and he seems to know every square inch of the river. Despite heavy boat traffic on the day we floated, Dan was able to maneuver us into tight eddys (seemingly unknown to others) where we caught more fish. And once again we saw folks passing us with their jaws open.

Should you book a float on the River with Dan A. you'll not be disappointed. Dan provides a great experience for the first timer and the experienced fishing party. He gets you in front of the fish and also is knowledgeable about the topography and river history.

Dan Anthon was a star helping amateurs like my husband and I learn the ropes of fly fishing. We never had any experience and he was patient and guided us and boosted our confidence. The trip was surely an adventure and will 100% recommended him and his services. He has fabulous stories about life and his company was like a balm on the soul during these trying times. So give him a chance to show the wonderful Deschutes river!

My husband and I booked a full-day trip on the Deschutes River with Dan. I am a beginner and Dan was amazing at teaching me the basics. We had so much fun and caught some gorgeous Rainbow Trout. Dan really is the fish whisperer all while teaching us so much about the landscape, flora, and fauna. I even like bugs a little more. We had an amazing time and will do this again for sure.

We fished with Dan on a 3 day float on the Deschutes. It was a great experience and a lot of fun. He put us on good fish, has a great sense of humor, and genuinely cares about making you a better angler no matter your experience level. He offers advise to less experienced anglers and encourages more experienced anglers to ask questions. He is well versed in different forms of fly fishing and enjoys helping you fish your preference. We threw dry flies, traditional nymph rods, euro nymph rods, and he helped me transition from swinging flies for steelhead to swinging flies for trout with a trout spey. Super rad dude to spend time on the water with. We’re looking forward to fishing with him again in the future. Thanks again Dan the Man!

Fished four days in July with Dan on the Deschutes & McKenzie Rivers. It was a great trip. Dan (Just Add Water Fly Fishing) is an experienced guide with over two decades on the central Oregon rivers, a true dedicated professional. He has a solid client base so he is on the water daily; knows the condition(s) of the rivers, setups that are working, casting techniques and all the things that make for a good day of fishing.
Dan has top of the line equipment and his rig for the for fishing on the Deschutes & McKenzie is the best boat on the water.
Also, Dan is an expert on the local geology, flora & fauna so an added bonus is you get a running narrative of the Central Oregon landscape (and this was much appreciated).
Hope to be booking another trip with him in the near future.

Had a great day with Dan. My grandson and I enjoyed his company and instruction. Dan's experience, knowledge, and passion for fly fishing made for an exciting and successful day. Further, Dan's ability to communicate and provide patient instruction to a 13 year old was most impressive. My grandson is 'hooked'.

On our first fly fishing trip to the Deschutes my 11 year old son and I went with Dan from Just Add Water Fly Fishing. Dan is patient, personable and a top notch fly guide. He possessed a unique ability to work with an adult and child. He provided teaching, helping us on improving our fly fishing skills, understanding different types of fly fishing, reading the water and more. He has an incredible understanding of the area and helped us with hooking and bringing in fish.
A great experience all around. Both of us came home with huge smiles, knowledge and happy memories. We both would highly recommend Dan to anyone interested in fly fishing whether a beginner or advanced angler.

Dan is such a patient teacher and guide. He put us into fish each (secret) spot he took us to. The best part was seeing my brother, who had fly fished rarely, catch two beautiful native rainbow trout on one especially beautiful stretch of the River. Highly recommend.

if you’re looking for the best mix of a guide who really knows the waters to bring you to fish and someone to give you fishing tips from a beginner to a seasoned fisher then Dan is your guy. I did the Deschutes and the McKenzie rivers with Dan on really hot days in August and still found fish. I’m planning a return trip and will book with Dan again next spring.
