My fiancé and I just took this trip. It was outstanding. Vernon Grieve really knows his business and is on top of everything to ensure you have a great time. The lodges were from very rustic to quite nice but they were all clean. Paradise Lodge was especially nice.
Re Food: For lunch, the guides cooked fish (if we caught some) and had other high-quality foods available for sandwiches or wraps. There was always a fresh baked pie or cookies. The food at the lodges was very good. Dinners were delicious. (Tri-tip, salmon, chicken, prime rib, salad, fresh bread, etc.) The breakfasts were great.
Guides: Our guide Travis was a complete pro and took very good care of us. All of guides were personable and helpful.
The scenery was breathtaking and being out of cell range and the internet was refreshing. There is some walking involved so a degree of fitness and mobility is required. (There is a place where they have to take the boats down a waterfall by ropes and you walk around. There are short steep uphill hikes to lodges.)
We will definitely do this trip again and with Greive's Guide Service.

My husband and I and 5 other couples went on an adventurous fishing trip in Southern Oregon. We went through Grieve's Guide Service. This trip was expensive. We were told the guides would spoil us and take care of everything. There were older people in our group. Every afternoon there was at least a half mile walk up the hill to get to VERY rustic cabins....some cabins worse than others....and the next morning walk back down carrying a back pack, etc. Possibly a 4-wheeler could have been arranged to assist in getting up and down the hills. All the guides were lined up the first day and you just "picked one" - this was very strange - should have already been assigned. Apparently, all the guides own their own boat and supplies - some guides had more supplies than others. The scenery was amazing - but I would not recommend Grieve's to anyone.

My boyfriend and I just returned from a 4-day wilderness fishing trip on the Rogue River with 5 other couples. The trip begins at the Grants Pass boat ramp and takes out just up river from Gold Beach at Quosatana Creek. The largest portion of the trip is through the Siskiyu National Forest and the scenery is breathtaking. Terry and his group of guides are amazing; navigating riffles and other obstacles while entertaining the group, baiting hooks, untangling lines and oh yes, netting fish. I have to give particular kudos to Jay. I am a novice fisherperson..... DON'T fish :) Jay was extremely patient and had me catching fish within 30 minutes of hitting the water. (My largest was a 27" salmon!!) And when you go be sure to take the 30 ft leap from Sports Illustrated. The bragging rights are great!!

The mornings start early with a carafe of hot coffee near at hand. Lunch is grilled on the shore consisting of freshly caught salmon/steelhead, a variety of delicious home made salads (potato, broccoli, pasta, etc.) fresh tomatoes and cucumbers all followed by yummy pie, cookies and even ice cream for dessert. Dinner is prepared by the guides the first night and the lodge chefs the remainder of the trip.

Evenings are spent at one of the lodges along the trek which range from rudimentary to very nice but all set in the beautiful natural Siskiyu Forest. I was just happy to have a hot shower after fishing all day!

If you have the opportunity to fish the Rogue, check out Grieve's! You'll be glad you did :)

My husband and I just returned from a 4 day trip with 3 other couples for a Salmon fishing trip on the Rogue River. Our reservations where made thru Grieve's Guide Services and they were great to work with and all services could not have been any better. The transportation, food provided during shore lunches and at the lodges was more than you could ask for - You will not go hungry. I even added the complication of food sensitivities of Gluten and Dairy and everyone accommodated this need without any problem. The three cabins we stayed in were very rustic but it is all part of the adventure - and the owners were delightful and very helpful. The guides, John, Mark, Randy, Ronnie and Don were professional, hilarious, knowledgeable and very hardworking and after 4 days felt like family. We all caught fish every day and the scenery along the river was gorgeous. You won't be disappointed!!
