The Turnaround at Seaside is a Destination all in itself. I have seen every walks of life here from the Locals to the well know world travelers. All have visited this very spot to witness a part of the Oregon Coast that can only be seen from this location. We parked at the far end where there was ample street parking. I didn’t see any signs that said any time limits to the parking or anything and we had no issues.

It was a lovely little walk down about a mile to the shops, beach entrances and activities. Along the way you pass beach-style vacation homes to the right and to the left reveals numerous pathways cutting through the seagrass leading to the ocean. The paved path is flat and is dotted with quaint lamps and benches.

You know you’ve made it to the touristy area when you hit the roundabout that’s guarded by the y’all statue of Lewis and Clark. Cars do drive on the roundabout so be careful and aware when you’re taking photos.

Once you get to Lewis and Clark, you can turn left and play on the beach or turn right and meander through endless stores, restaurants, taffy shops and arcades. It was lively and fun and was nice to get away from all the chaos that has become the “real world” in 2020.

Walk the long Prom (boardwalk) at Seaside Beach from one end to the center where you will find the Turnabout and the historic Lewis and Clark statue. This is the center of the action at Seaside Beach. One of my favorite beaches on the Oregon Coast, although a bit touristy.

End of the road (Broadway). This turnaround allows you to drive all the way up to the beach and overlook the beach before finding parking elsewhere. There is a Lewis and Clark statue in the middle on a traffic island. Not a must see, but a nice photo opp. The beach and the promenade stretch from the turnaround in both directions. We visited on a Saturday in September and in spite of Covid, it was quite busy. There is plenty of room to socially distance though. We didn't find Seaside as clean as other coastal towns (like Cannon beach for example).

The Turnaround at Seaside on the promenade is iconic. Drive slowly around. Better yet, walk and take a seat on the benches. Look out to the ocean, turning right or left, see sweeping views of miles of beach.

I haven't been here in 10 years. What a disappointment to see the entire block overwhelmed by ugly high-rise apartment complexes. You can barely see the statue for all of the construction that's been thrown up around it.

When I was a kid, you could walk down to the statue and see nothing but beach on both sides. You could squint, stand next to Lewis and Clark, and imagine being part of the party, finally stumbling down to the ocean for the first time. Now? Don't bother.

Where is Sacajawea? According to history she was essential to Lewis & Clark's expedition, yet her name appears nowhere on this commemorative statue. Very shameful lapse on the part of the people who created this landmark....

The non-stop peaceful echoes of Ocean Waves crashing onto the seashore is what you'll remember about this place that you'll end up wanting to come back again soon after your trip. Hotels, some with swimming pools and exercise rooms, line the beach with this spectacular view, some with restaurants overlooking the beach where you can eat and enjoy this fantastic scenery. The aquarium is nearby on the boardwalk where you can feed seals or explore other sea life. Just outside the hotels along the main street are the bumper car rides, a video game arcade where kids can trade their game tickets for prizes, water rides, surrey bikes, souvenir shops, ice cream shops, restaurants of all types (including the famous Pig 'n Pancake, Doogers, and Norma's Seafood & Grill) , a merry-go-round, specialty stores, and places where adults can enjoy the night life...all within walking distance. Just a very short car ride will take you to the discount strip mall and retail outlets next to the movie theater. Less than 10 miles south is Cannon Beach and, up north, is Astoria. Near the middle of the town is the Our Lady of Victory parish for your weekend service needs. The 'turnaround' is where the Lewis and Clark trail ended. At night, visitors light bonfires in the sand. The beauty of the beach and the closeness of all the activities is what sets this get-away apart from other places and is what makes visitors come back again and again for years. It is good destination for both families & couples and there is something to do for everyone.

You have to drive your car around the turn around and wave to all the people. That's just what you do.
