We added a visit to Ankeny at the last minute & I'm so glad we did! The wood fired pizza was delicious! We had a seasonal special & a pepperoni. Our server was very friendly & the wine superb.

Relaxing patio, beautiful views, and excellent wines!
May 2018 • Couples
My husband and I visited recently and had a wonderful experience. The wines were wonderful and the staff was friendly and helpful. We sat outside and enjoyed their wood fired pizza and a full tasting flight on the deck. Afterwards we took a stroll through the vines and from the top of the hill were able to see out over the rolling vineyard all the way to the coastal range. Despite being a busy holiday weekend we were very well attended to by the friendly staff, hope to return again soon. Willamette Valley has over 700 vineyards and is about 150 miles long but its tasting rooms like these that have an intimate feel and excellent wines that keep bringing us back time and time again.

What a Joke!
Feb 2018 • Couples
My wife and I came here with a Groupon on a rainy Saturday afternoon. At first we were the first ones there, but by the time we left, there were about a dozen people.

I will say the wine was OK and the pizza was good. The one star rating? That is for the service, wow.

We were greeted by the guy who we later overheard saying he was the GM and his dog. He put his dog in a back room and though it kept trying to get out, he seemingly rudely kept pushing it back in there.

We had a Groupon as mentioned and that seemed to annoy him. It offered a pizza with our wine and even though he let us pay the extra $3 for GF crust, he was adamant that he could not and would not let us pay extra for more toppings...

At first when we got there I made a joke about how "busy" they were to which he replied that ya people always make that joke and it's not funny...

When it came to the wine tastings, he poured and said little to nothing about any of them. He forgot a Pinot and when I made a joke about the Moscato (honestly a bad dad joke referring it to a cat) he literally did not laugh and said I hate you to me... Like my wife and I laughed...but he didn't.

As more people got there, it got worse. He seemingly could not handle us and my wife and I gave up and just took our wine and sat at the table. In interacting with a group of ladies in their 60s, he argued with them over them bringing in homemade chocolates and would not let them eat them, talked about how he smokes weed (to which they had no reply) and begrudgingly turned on the music and heat for them.

Of note is as I said this guy said he was the GM and had been there for years. His actions may have at least been understandable had he been new, but it sounds like not only was he not new, but he was high up.

Then another couple came in and had a Groupon, and they had the print out, but not a bar code. Instead of trying to be helpful, he basically kept saying this is no good and told them to get the app. It took them like 10 minutes to finally do so and he would not even serve them anything in the mean time.

I myself worked in food service for nearly 10 years and have been all over to countless places and this is likely the worst service I can remember ever receiving in my life. Rude, inattentive, unwelcoming and laughable at best.

The food nor the wine here was not enough to help us ever consider coming back and I am sure we were not the only ones that felt that way that day.

Over priced tastings

Stopped here after the Eclipse. Sitting at a table, not the bar. Poor service. Planned to buy wine and eat our packed lunch. No. Won't let us. $20 for two for five tastings. No intimacy with the staff, just various random servers. I am used to real winery owners and staff.

First visit, will go again!

Our daughter gave us a gift certificate to the Vineyard, otherwise we might never have gone there. We're members of Willamette Valley Vineyard.

The contrast between the 2 vineyards is striking with Ankeny being the smaller, humble, more informal place. Nonetheless, we really enjoyed the wine and the pizza. We got there early on Saturday (about 4pm) last month and the place was not crowded at all. We got served immediately and we even bought a case of wine.

Just as we were finishing our meal a local band (Gail Gage Jazz Group) began setting up. They play every 1st Sat of the month at 5:30. We moved to a sofa at the rear and stayed for the music. The place became packed very quickly and we were glad to have gotten our dinner already and we had ordered additional drinks when we moved seats. Many folks ended up having to stand which made it hard for them to eat anything.

The music was great and the atmosphere festive, but we would not have enjoyed it much if we had not had seats. If you go on a first Saturday, get there well before 5pm.
We'll go again and we'll be sure to take our own advice.

Not Among Our Favorites
Sep 2016 • Couples
Enjoyed the drive to this location. Sufficient parking, a few spots on pavement. The outdoor deck looked nice, and the weather was beautiful, but we were told by 2 staffers that we were not allowed outside during a tasting flight. However, we witnessed other patrons coming in from the deck to get tastings (not full glasses), and then returning outside. Hmmm...
The flight was a mix of red & white, sweet & dry. The wines were not particularly memorable, nor was the delivery. Our servers were uninspired and basically told us what flavors we should sense during our tastes, and occasionally offered up a generic food pairing idea. Nothing more. We came here specifically to taste the Maréchal Foch (one of my personal favorites) but this version was a little disappointing.
We ordered a hummus plate at the same time as the tasting flight. It arrived after we were more than half done with our flight. It was satisfying, but again, nothing memorable. Server did not bring us plates or napkins, so I got them myself. Just as we were about to finish, (late afternoon), somebody finally turned on some music. Strange. We left without buying any wine (a rarity for us) and really see no point in going back, except maybe to try sitting outside on a nice day and have a go with one of their pizza's, which did look good.

Great music, good pizza, nice staff
Jul 2016 • Couples
We go here often with friends, or sometimes just on date night. On a summer Friday night, we arrived about 5 p.m. with our gift certificate Groupon in hand, and had our choice of seats on the deck overlooking the vineyard and farms, inside at tables, or on couches near the windows. What a pleasant place! Our package included pizza, wine tasting and $10 off a bottle. We loved the stone oven-fired pizza, tasted the wine and bought a bottle. The place was soon packed with other Groupon users, but our waiters continued to be attentive. If the wine were a bit better or less expensive, I would give this place 5 stars, but it has huge competition in this area. Despite that, it is fun enough so that the setting makes it a must-see in my book. There is also a $10 tasting fee, so be forewarned. I wouldn't go there just for the tasting. I'd wait for the live music nights.
