About
No matter your ability level, The Stables at Eagle Crest Resort provides everything from pony rides for our youngest guests, multi-hour trail rides for the more advanced, and plenty of experiences in between. We also love to have guests just come by the stables, up on The Ridge, to say hello and meet the horses. Here you'll find head wrangler Chris Buller, his team of experienced wranglers, and plenty of beautiful horses waiting to take you and your family on an authentic horseback ride.

Our experience with Savana was wonderful. It was my 7year olds first riding experience. Her grandfather came along for the ride and Savana was fantastic. Answering all of the questions both daughter and grandfather threw at her. It was a relaxing and enjoyable experience. I can't recommend this enough.

I liked the area where the trail ride was, the part that was disappointing to me were the horses themselves. I have not owned a horse for many years, but I still know a thing or two about horses. It did not appear to me the horses are well cared for. I love Eagle Crest and after speaking with staff at the resort I learned the horses are owned an operated on site by a third party vendor. I expressed my concern, they said they would look into it. I will not let this experience impact my feelings about the resort.

Give it a go....

The guides were were great. We did the hour long ride for the 6+ in the group and the pony ride for the younger ones. We actually booked back to back trips on two different days. Tip your guide and bring apple quarters and/or carrots.

There was some problems with the scheduling even though I was a little over a week in advance. From what I could gather, multiple people taking reservations with no central data point leading to double bookings and having to move people to different days. Many of us were here for spring break so many people made reservations based on chance of rain and how long they were there.

Evidently this was a new problem as they were trying to switch a few things around-probably trying out some things in the off season. Call and confirm your ride before you show up. There isn’t always someone at the stables/on-site.

We booked an hour and a half private ride during our stay at Eagle Crest resort. I can't say enough about the people, the views and, of course, the horses. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the scenery and learned a lot about the area.

SIERRA our guide was absolutely wonderful and welcoming and made my family including teens (especially two family members being first time riders) very comfortable. She was in tune to everyone's level of comfortableness during our trail ride and was open to questions. She was also very aware about all body language of us and our horses and picked up on the slightest of ticks and corrected any observations. She also demonstrated she is knowledgeable and had a lot of experience to share with other guide SAVANNAH. Both young ladies were wonderful and had great attitudes the entire time and was wonderful to my family making us feel welcome and we left with smiles on our faces!

We had our young son booked for a pony ride to finish off a week long trip to Eagle Crest. We had talked about it all week and visited the horses by the road several times. We were instructed to arrive 15 minutes before our 10 am scheduled time so we did, although the meeting location was unmarked and not at the labeled "horse corral" or "horse stable" location. Nobody ever showed up. I called 4-5 times to let them know we were there, etc., and ended up in a smelly horse corral in the cold for 30+ minutes. I've never raised horses but we did have cows, goat, and chickens growing up and I was sad to see how the 6 or so horses that were in the barn were living. They had 1/2 foot of horse poop in their stables, no clean/dry place to lay, no water in their themoregulated buckets, and seemed so hungry they were biting at each other and hoofing each other. While waiting I tried to feed them some hay that I could get to. My son left in tears that he missed out on his pony ride and I left feeling sad for these horses.

15 minute Horse rides Perfect for 3 year old
Jul 2016 • Family
This is the second year we have taken our granddaughter on a short, 15 minute horsey ride. Last year, she was just 2 1/2 and was a little wary, so my daughter was able to walk alongside the guide. His name was Garan, I believe, and he was wonderful. Very pleasant and cheerful with an excellent personality. He gave us background on all of the horses, talked about their unique traits, and generally just made us feel very welcome and comfortable. This year, we went back for another ride, and Garan remembered us from last year! We had another nice ride, and his calm demeanor and confidence was instrumental in helping my granddaughter feel safe enough to take her ride with him alone. A highlight of our rides is the carrot and apple feed at the end of the ride. The stables has a few apples, but we bring our own, and spend as much time feeding them as we do riding! Very friendly staff, wonderful horses, and they are extremely well cared-for and healthy. The price is reasonable ($15 for a 15 minute horse ride), and since it is close to Eagle Crest, it is a nice activity we can do in the morning before we head out to do other things. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars was because of the billing situation. The rides must be booked through the Eagle Crest Concierge, and there doesn't seem to be adequate communication between the hotel staff and the stable staff. The concierge took my credit card information, but then I had to pay cash when I got to the stables. It was just sort of confusing. Also.....finding the stables has proven to be a little challenging, despite the map provided by Eagle Crest. One other thing: I would love to be able to have the option for my granddaughter to go again if she wants. As it is now, rides must be scheduled 24 hours in advance, and they don't allow for this. We will continue to come each time we vacation here.

Very well behaved horses; great staff. a nose-to-tail sort of ride; would have preferred a little more variety, but all in all it was OK.

Very family friendly and patient with young riders

Staff was very helpful, kind and patient with everyone that came in while I was there. Their horses were all well trained, behaved on the trail (no racing back to the barn, well cared for with proper upkeep, and dead dead broke. Great experience for beginners because the horses know what to do without any input, but they also had more advanced horse(s) that respond to experienced riders' requests and happily obliged. I had Sonny, a super cute palomino paint gelding.
I bought a 10 minute pony ride for my 18 month old. They put her on a great horse and we walked around the pasture. That was about what I was expecting because of her age, but I still enjoyed the photo opp and getting her exposed to horses at a young age. Then I went on a 1.5 hour ride. Scenery was nice. A little dusty in the back of the trail, but what do you expect in an extreme drought year in the middle of August?! Glad I had sunglasses, wish I had brought a hat.
Great experience!
