Went with friends and used the South Shore group camping site (Cottonwood). The camp sites were not necessarily well marked (no defined tent pads, as one might find at some places). If you want to do a fire, bring your own wood.
The main reason we were here was to climb at Smith Rock State Park -- good location with regard to be near the park. It's not very scenic but functional for us. For me, this would not be a destination site -- for hiking or camping. It looked as if some folks do fishing here in the day area.
I do appreciate its functionality and location.

The setting is quiet and peaceful with waterfront campsites in a wooded setting. The evening we were there, we saw and heard giant V’s of geese and heard coyotes yowling. It was great.
The campground host is friendly and there are bathrooms and trash available.
Water is from a single common source and there are no hook ups for sewage or electrical at the sites.
We went in mid October on a weekend and they were very few other campers

The on site property manager needs to be taught some manners. We had two young children with us and he came up to our fishing spot screaming at us about not paying the parking fee. We had two vehicles, and parked right next to each other. We paid for both in the same envelope, with both license plate numbers written on the envelope. He had no right to cuss out myself and my friends in front of a eight and five year old simply because he can't read OR count. I will never return. There are plenty of free lakes in the area. No one needs to pay to be verbally abused.

I brought my kids here and they all learned how to kayak on this little safe lake we paddled all over and never ran into any trouble. Beautiful views of the surrounding area. The beach can get really Rocky bring heavy blankets to lay on or chairs.

Booked this spot online not knowing exactly what we were going to be getting once we got there.
The campground itself is about a 10 minute drive off of Hwy 97. The site itself has about 25 spots. There is only one running water spot, no showers and I think 4-5 port a potty like restrooms.
We had site #17 and would argue it was the best there! The site was huge. We only had 1 tent but there were open locations enough to easily fit 3 or 4! We had our own little turn in that made parking and unloading real easy! Spot had plenty of shade, which the time we were there was not much needed but i could imagine would be a life saver on a hotter day.
From our spot we had direct lake access down a path. It lead to some great views and great picture taking at sunset. There were bugs, but not many mosquito.
Park host was very nice. Greeted us after we arrived and he made his rounds seemingly every hour or so. Some guests got a little loud/obnoxious but for the most part things were quiet by about 10:30.
We really enjoyed the peace and quiet here, the large site area and access to the lake. We would come back here for sure!

Too rustic. I do not like it here at all. No flush toilets and for sure no showers. Very dusty. I personally feel there are defiantly other camping choices in Central Oregon that are worth t
