The big leGrowlski is a very chill and relaxing bar. The ambience is dark (in a good way, candles lit and dark colored decor). When you enter, the bar has about 7 or so stools and about the same amount of tables to sit and drink. Off to the side is another area to hang out in, and they have live music playing on certain days (they did that night). The bar area had an 80's alternative music station locked in, it was nice to hear some early R.E.M and erasure while sipping on a pint. They have a large selection of beer here , as always written on the wall in bright colored chalk. Service was prompt and good. They also have outdoor seating.

Stopped here while walking to dinner. It's a small, fun bar with a lot of great beer choices. Did not order a white Russian, unfortunately.

Small bar area with another room for music and DJ's. Friendly staff, great variety of beers and a full bar. Moderate prices.

For a cool atmosphere and a deep appreciation of The Dude you must make this a Portland stop. The beer menu is diverse, cocktails are well thought out and decor is pleasing! Bartender was friendly and cool.

Excellent selection of local (PNW) beers. Something for everyone. Some ciders and snacks, and you can take any brew home in a range of growler sizes. Haphazard but friendly service. Reasonable prices. If you love beer, worth a stop on the way to the bookstore.

My boyfriend and I visited Portland last weekend for the first time. We had a quick trip but enjoyed our fair share of local craft brews along the way. We reached our last day and were of course trying to cram in a few last beers before the flight. After a quick Google search we found The Big Legrowlski. Being a huge fan of the movie of which it's quirky title arose from, we had to stop in. We walked into an empty room but a friendly face. Matt greeted us and slowly became one of nerdy best friends we never knew we had for the next two hours. Being that it was 11 am on a Saturday, it was quiet so we had Matt's attention all to ourselves to discuss Captain America, Game of Thrones and comic books all while enjoying fantastic beers from the area. We even found out that he's from our neighboring town back home (Small World). We went to The Big Legrowlski for the name, but came out with fond memories and new friend in Portland.
