We chose the hardest escape room and we were sorry we did. It was extremely complicated and we weren’t able to even get to the last room. It was fun but very complicated. The theme kept it entertaining. We were a group of about six. I would recommend this place. The staff was very nice and very helpful. Unless you’re really good at escape rooms do not choose the hardest room.

My friends and I had a blast at Hour to Midnight! We did the Pharaoh room and it was very well done - great aesthetic, excellent production quality, and really creative puzzles. Perfect size for our team of 6. We had a mix of escape room newbies and experienced players on our team and this room was great for everyone. I have personally played over 40+ rooms around the world and I can confidently say that this was one of the best.

Staff were really accommodating and friendly - we were able to add 2 additional players at the door seamlessly. Communicating with staff via email was easy as well. Shoutout to our wonderful Game Master Sharidan, who was so friendly and helpful with clues and with explaining our game before we began. Thank you so much Sharidan :)

We enjoyed our escape room! As it is one of many escape rooms we have done, it was not as aesthetically interesting as others. However, the game was well-thought through. The other rooms were very cool and our game master was amazing! It is a great place to experience an escape room, especially if you are new to escape rooms!

We took a gamble driving 15+ minutes outside downtown Portland - and it was well worth it. We've done dozens of escape rooms in several countries, and this - without a doubt - is the best. From the staff to the quality of the rooms, construction, and puzzles.

The first room we tried was Secrets of Nibiru. It was well-constructed, and the puzzles were well thought out. The question we always ask ourselves - whether we can get out or not - is, "does everything make sense?". The answer was a definite yes. It was fair, and the story was cohesive with the clues. We've done escape rooms where they've had to cut multiple locks because combinations did not work. But the puzzles here were very well balanced; not too easy, not too hard. We loved it so much, and their staff was so great, we tried the Pharaoh's Lost Relic which is the prequel to the Secrets of Nibiru the next morning before we left. It did not disappoint.

Without going into detail, it was by a clear mile, the best escape room we've ever done. It is very clear that they took years to construct this room; everything was well thought out, the mechanics were well balanced, the puzzles were fair and cohesive with the story, and it was just an all-around excellent room. It is definitely not easy, but the story and the entire escape room is built so well, we cannot recommend it enough for enthusiasts.

If you are in Portland, want to do an escape room and have time to do only one or two things, we would strongly recommend both of these escape rooms. Beware - you will set a VERY high standard for future escape rooms.

To cap it off, the staff were enthusiastic and passionate. I cannot recommend this place enough.

The new Pharaoh's room is top notch. 75 minute room, my experienced team got out with one clue. Room is completely immersive, even the clue system, amazing mechanics, creative puzzles that fit the theme, no lock and key puzzles, one combo lock. Best room in Portland - closest competition is this establishment’s Secrets of Nibiru. Enjoy this must do room.

I've done about 15+ escape rooms, and Hour to Midnight ranks up there as one of my favorite escape room establishments (I've done all 3 of their rooms). The rooms themselves I would rank a 4/5. The story tying the rooms together is decent, and the rooms are very well-designed. The puzzles are good-to-great. Some of the puzzles I've seen before, others can be time-consuming, but for the most part, they function well together and are well thought-out. Nothing "incredible," but not bad whatsoever.

However, what ranks this place a 5 in my opinion is the staff and the professionalism of the place overall! There is a lot of space, it is very clean, and the staff brings an excitement to their craft which elevates the experience (shoutout to Horatio who fully immersed us in The House of Darkness with his role-playing and general positive energy). Each time I've gone to this business (I've done the 3 rooms over the past 3 years), my team and I have had a positive experience and love the vibe.

Overall, 5 stars, and I cannot wait to try out their new room (which we got a sneak peak to and looks absolutely gorgeous). I highly recommend!

This was out first escape room so we didn’t really have any expectations. Our family of 4 adults rented the entire room and had a BLAST! We did the Assassin’s room and were super impressed by how detailed and creative the puzzles were. Challenging and enough clues/activities to keep us all on our toes. Very friendly staff, lockers with chargers to keep your phones in and super easy to sign up. Our family can’t wait to try another room here!

Hour to Midnight: The Secrets of Nibiru

This review is for The Secrets of Nibiru.

I'll start off by saying that we really did not enjoy the Secret of Nibiru Room, and I would not recommend playing it. I've played 60+ rooms across the US and Europe, and the rest of my team has played 20-25.

However, I'm rating it 4 stars because this company still does a lot of things well, and they also have other rooms I have not experienced. Additionally, the things I enjoy in an escape room are not necessarily what everyone enjoys.

I'll start with the good!

Lobby: The lobby was professional and clean (which is not always a guarantee for escape rooms).

Staff: Our gamemaster was professional, friendly, and attentive to our game.

Set Design: The main thing Hour to Midnight has going for them is their sets! For the game we played and the peeks we had into the other rooms, the sets looked incredible. The lighting and sound design were also on point.

Story: The story was interesting enough without being overcomplicated, and it came through well as the game went on.

Game/Puzzles: This is where things started to go downhill. There were 3 fundamental issues:

1) A time killing puzzle that had us ripping our hair out over the tedium: This puzzle took us a full 25 minutes to complete, and it was tedius, finicky, and could only have 2 (or maybe 3) players contributing to it at once. I could literally feel my good mood and enjoyment of the game draining out of me as I realized how much time we were being forced to put into this puzzle. The puzzle could easily be tweaked to take much less time, and more puzzles added in it's place. This was the main issue with the game.

2) Scarcity of Puzzles: There was not a lot of content in this room. Usually, I don't mind this in a game, because I understand that most people don't play escape rooms every other weekend, and the number of puzzles in the game needs to reflect that. However, in a public game listed as the most challenging, which can accommodate up to 10 people, there was simply not a lot to do. In liu of puzzles, what made it hard was the time consuming "puzzle" described above, as well as...

3) Search and Find Puzzles: This game was very heavily search and find. We were a smaller group, so I will absolutely take credit for the fact that we missed several stupidly obvious finds. However, the difficulty of an escape room should not be solely based on how many annoying places you can hide important clues, and that is how this game felt. If there had been more puzzles and more variety, I wouldn't have minded the quantity hidden objects (you have to keep your groups of 10 entertained somehow!), but the puzzle designers relied far too heavily on this as a primary mechanic in their game.

In conclusion:
Play this game for:
-a great set
-some fun technogy.
Do not play this game for:
-fun, creative puzzles
-good game design

If you want to play this company, I'd suggest maybe trying out some of their other games instead.
