If you've ever strolled through NW Portland admiring the beautiful homes and charming tree-lined shopping streets, taking a guided tour with Slabtown Tours is an easy and fun way to gain a deeper appreciation of this special part of town. Tour guide Tanya is very knowledgeable, charming and fun. She customized our tour experience to match the sorts of things our group was curious about. She shared lots of historical context -- none of it I knew, even though I'm a lifelong Portlander. Her stories are colorful and memorable; she points out fascinating small physical details about the neighborhood that I'd never noticed before; she brings along photos. And, all in all, she makes it a fun way to spend an afternoon. I would definitely take another tour and recommend her highly to folks who live here, as well as visitors.

I'm glad our tours were an asset to your own understanding of Nob Hill & Slabtown. Don't forget that we have A Night With Ghosts tour starting on Friday the 13th in September-- if you are looking for a new adventure.

The tour guide knows everything about Portland's urban history, is entertaining, walks the extra mile (literally, in our case) to show you stuff you are interested in, and drives a Zamboni. What more can you ask of a tour guide? Both the Slabtown Tours we did with Tanya were really good, and we would recommend them for any visitor to Portland.

Tanya combines bits and pieces of the past that still exist in Slabtown into a bigger history of the neighborhood, city, and region. I felt like I was reading one of those books where you turn pages of transparencies onto each other until you see the full picture. And don't try to stump her by asking about buildings she doesn't mention - can't be done! I noticed some very interesting tiny homes and learned they had been moved from the space needed for the World's Fair - that's why they are so closely packed together. A very worthwhile walk through the past!

My daughter and i took this tour with Tanya while I was visiting for the holidays. The slabtown area has great history that becomes visible when Tanya points it out to you. Tanya is generous with her knowledge, her time and her local contacts. I would recommend taking this tour as soon as you move into the neighnorhood and when visiting. It is rare to have such a knowledgeable guide who can offer the visitor such a feeling of belonging. Keep your eyes out for the Slabtown Festival.....
