About Portland Walking Tours
Portland Walking Tours’ fun and award-winning events explore the excitement, history, food, architecture, neighborhoods, bridges, parks, fountains, artwork, and just plain weird places in Portland Oregon. Tours include the award-winning “Best of Portland,” showcasing what makes Portland such a fabulous place to live and visit (daily, 10 AM and 2 PM); our scandalous “Underground Portland,” aka "the worst of Portland," revealing both the physical and metaphorical subterranean story of Portland's sordid past; the eerie “Beyond Bizarre”, a hands-on exploration of Portland's paranormal, using real ghost-hunting equipment as seen on shows like "Ghost Adventurer" (TM) and "Paranormal State" (TM); our delicious “Epicurean Excursion” walking tour, a tasty immersion into Portland's amazing culinary "slow food" scene; our indulgent “Chocolate Decadence Tour," exploring and sampling chocolate in its many solid and liquid forms, from bean to bar and everything in between; "Roses Gone Wild!", which dishes the dirt on Portland's famous International Rose Test Gardens; and "Flavor Street," where you taste the best of Portland's incredible food cart scene - and skip the rest.

So much information, presented in an interesting talk, so many venues, and how everything tied together, Dianne was fabulous Couldn't believe how much she showed and told us in 2 hours!

Our tour guide was Brick. We had a completely different experience than one of the other reviewers. My family included two teenagers and all 4 of us agreed it was one of the best tours we had taken. First it was snowing and Brick called us to confirm that the tour was still on and made sure we knew the address. Even though we got soaked we enjoyed the stories and the history of Portland especially since the tone of the city has changed so much. The only thing I was unhappy with was the title—underground refers to the “underground” theme. The tour is walking on the surface streets and sidewalks. Otherwise the tour exceeded our expectations

Josh was our guide and his dialog was full of enthusiasm, energy, and humor. There were two young people on our tour and he appropriately toned down some language and innuindo, for which I thank him. I don’t think anything was missed by the adults, though. I especially appreciated the story of Nancy Boggs, and the first Portlad long distance flight! Terrifically “weird” stories. I highly recommend this tour to all.

I booked this "Adults Only" tour after receiving a glowing review from a friend. Upon arrival I was notified by the tour guide, Brick, that my boyfriend and I were the only ones who booked the tour. We arrived 15 minutes early and had to wait in the lobby, in silence, while Brick played on the computer. He started by saying "the 'Adults Only' tour is the exact same as the normal tour except I get to say sh*t, f*ck and p*ssy - and I WILL say that A LOT." We were also told that because we were in a rough part of Portland, at any time he may scream "Hey, GET THE F*CK OUT" to pedestrians who walk up to us during the tour, and assured us we were safe because he is a veteran. It was completely off-putting from the start. While we were on the tour, Brick made additional sexist jokes and remarks which were not well-received (i.e. standing in front of a building shaped like female genitalia - Brick said it was designed by women and men could not locate the piece at the top to complete the design). Brick could certainly tell my boyfriend and I were uncomfortable towards the end of the tour, where we were walked down into the basement in silence to make contact with the "ghost" there. Anyone with half a mind would have picked up on the fact (and the social cues) we weren't comfortable doing that. Additionally, it would have been in his best interest to give us the option to participate in that part of the tour, given it was 11:00pm and only 3 of us in the entire building. He even made verbal mention that I looked uncomfortable and was weery about going to the basement. When the tour was over, he said "tips, high fives, and slaps on the butt" were accepted as forms of appreciation. I was completely turned off to the tour, and in no way appreciated Brick's behavior, comments and demeanor.

Hi KTmilehigh! Thank you for your feedback. I'm sorry that you did not enjoy your experience with Brick. Management will definitely speak with him about the concerns that you have brought up. He is a veteran tour guide with us and it sounds like he completely misread the room. I hope that you still enjoyed your time in Portland and please feel free to reach out to us at the main office at 503-774-4522 if you wish to discuss your experience further with management.
