Bike Around Portland: Bridges, Doughnuts, Poetry and Roses

51 reviews
It's all about the bike ride! We like to spend more time riding in small groups, but always stopping to smell the roses. Start in the inner Eastside neighborhoods, where we will safely fit you for a bike and helmet, ready for a sweet 9-11 mile ride through a pretty residential neighborhood, to our favorite rose garden, into an art-heavy industrial district, across the sexy Tilikum Bridge, and onto Portland's waterfront. From there, it's a visit to Old Town, and tell the story of Voodoo, before we head back over another bridge back to our shop!

You'll visit a total of 5 of the city's quadrants, ride over two bridges, and along the Willamette River. We'll visit almost-secret beaches, read poetry written in sidewalks and rocks, see public art of every shape, color and texture. And have you tried some of the city's best doughnuts? Learn our favorites! All along the way, we'll tell the stories of the city we love.

Bikes, helmets and water provided. Please wear masks for bike sizing.

Good food. My son loved the dates wrapped in bacon. Outdoor seating was not ideal on a busy street but all indoor seating were taken.

Most people evidently go here for the cocktails and it’s easy to see why. I needed something light and refreshing so I ordered the Basic. It was exactly right. My daughter ordered the No Respect and her boyfriend ordered the Point of No Return. Each was interesting and tasty but in very different ways. They also offer to make something up for you if you can’t decide and I understand it’s usually something special not on the menu. The atmosphere is like a speakeasy, very interesting. Try it out!

My partner and I saw that the Sapphire Hotel was now offering brunch after being closed for awhile. We stopped in and it was great. The options were pretty diverse and not necessarily standard American breakfast. My partner had the kale salad with two eggs and I had the Herb omelette with a salad and toast. It was all very tasty. We each had a coffee as well and the total was 30 dollars. It isn't the cheapest place for brunch but it isn't expensive either. Seems pretty much straight down the line price-wise. It was all very good though. The servers were all very nice and friendly. There are a lot of breakfast options in this area and this one manages to be different enough to do well I think. It was not packed in there so if you are worried about lines this may be your spot.

Sapphire hotel is a great place to get good drinks and enjoy and relax. They are very helpful and nice people there and skilled bar tenders with helpful tips as to what is on the menu. I would recommend this place to anyone, if you are in the area it will be well worth your time to stop in.

The Sapphire Hotel bar is an atmospheric and pleasant place to spend a happy hour. Especially in the summer, when they have tables outside on a relatively quiet Street. Happy hour food is substantial and delicious. For those not familiar with this place, I would mention that it is not actually a hotel. It's only the restaurant and bar.
