Happy hour at this bar is a wonderful experience. The service is excellent, the ambiance is amazing, and the prices are reasonable especially for this upscale historical venue. Highly recommended.

I recently attended a Club Manager conference in Portland and stayed at this hotel. The place is perfectly located in the heart of the city near to great restaurants and bars, the hotel was spotless and the service fantastic! I Loved the new dinner menu slipped under the door every afternoon.

I was able to get into high tea with little notice on a weekday. It's expensive- about $34 per person. However, the tea itself is excellent (we had gunpowder and Earl Grey) and there is lots of it. It was raining heavily when we arrived and I was soaked to the bone. The hostess suggested a Kir Royale, which hit the spot. It's champagne cocktail. My husband and I are both vegetarians, which was easy for them to accommodate. However (sigh) I am also lactose intolerant and allergic to soy (big sigh) and gluten. This was not a problem at all- which is a testament to the kitchen! Our server was highly knowledgeable, friendly and kind.
I would recommend high tea at Heathmans for anyone of any age or dietary consideration.

My husband and I ate in the dining room area of the Heathman Hotel. When we arrived, we were seated and given water and waited. And waited. And waited. We had two servers who passed by and one finally said, "Would you like a menu." Yes we would. I gave the server my card with my list of allergies, then we ordered. And waited. And waited. No bread offered, or supplied. The food was delivered without explanation. While the foie gras was delicious, I had to ask what the creamy looking stuff was on the plate, to which the surprised server said, "Apple butter." Sorry, I've never seen WHITE apple butter, so don't assume I know what it is. The same was true of subsequent courses, including my Halibut (delicious) and my husband's cod. Delivered, dropped on table, no explanation. Dessert we request the sorbet trio--which arrived on top of a mystery item. My husband asked, "Is this pineapple?" Why yes it is, said the server. "My wife is allergic to pineapple. It's on the card." Food allergies are not a whim, a nicety, or a joke. If someone goes to the trouble of giving you a card with a listing, PAY ATTENTION. Otherwise you're going to kills someone.

When we were last in Portland -about 5 years ago-I thought I remembered this dining room as a more traditional place but maybe my memory 's wrong. We met some nice people and I thought the food and service were fine.

We went for the Russian Tea, we try to do this tradition at the Heathman every December, usually it's an English tea, I was a little disappointed at first as I was expecting and looking forward to another English Tea and this year it was Russian tea, but other than the fact there were no scones, jam and clotted cream (I was looking forward to that). The Russian tea was wonderful, I had the chocolate mint tea, very yummy, there was a choice of a variety on Russian teas, the food...savories and sweets were brought on tiered plates, and all were delicious, most I had never tried or heard of before. The waitstaff were very nice and explained all the different teas and pastries, and the room was so beautifully decorated. Only complaint I had was the waiting area to get in the restaurant got extremely crowded and rather confusing, we had a 91 year old with us and there was really nowhere we could sit her down...
...hopefully they may one day get this sorted...it has been like this every December, but for the food and ambience it is worth it. We will be back next year, hopefully try some tea from a different part of the world?

We stopped into the Heathman restaurant for a team lunch on a Weds afternoon. We were quickly led to our table where our waitress promptly grabbed our drink orders. All was fine until we placed our food orders - it took about an hour to receive our meals. Granted, there were 7 or 8 of us, the place didn't appear that busy as there were empty tables around us. The food was just OK - I had the kale & chicken caesar salad, while almost everyone had the hamburger. The prices are a little much for what you get - the salad was served on a small plate, and seemed more like a side dish instead of an entree-sized portion. Our lunch was a textbook example of an average, 3-star experience. I probably won't be back anytime soon.

The bed and bedding are all very comfortable but the bathroom is particularly small. There was also some mold on the shower curtain. Overall, not a bad experience but pretty pricy. It's right in the middle of downtown so walking distance to food trucks/stores/etc. We got the AAA package that included parking and I definitely recommend that since there's no easy overnight parking downtown. With the AAA package, you have unlimited in and out privileges so we were able to go and return as we pleased.

The drinks were fine the appetizers small but good, but the prices were not Happy Hour prices, especially the drinks, $12 for a substantial but ordinary well bourbon Manhattan.
