Ivan is a great guide and knows a lot about the trees and rock formations. It was informative and he was enthusiastic. There is some walking involved, the only advice would be to bring extra water and hiking shoes.

Went on the Gorge Tour with Ivan and a group of other tourists. Had a great time, hiking through the trees, enjoyed some beautiful views and really enjoyed some of the smaller details. Ivan was knowledgeable and informative of just about everything and was prepared for everything, including a great picnic lunch. Highly recommended.

Volcano Lands provided us with an excellent nature hike complete with breathtaking waterfalls! Ivan, the owner/tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. We would highly recommend this tour for teenagers! So much nature to see that they actually ditch the electronics:)

Great tour, but be physically prepared. This is NOT a tour for a couch potato! I thought I was in pretty good shape and made it fine before lunch but afterwards, it was much more difficult! I am not ashamed to say the incline and stairs were tough. But, the experience was great. The park itself was beautiful. Being able to walk behind several waterfalls was the main attraction for me, and I was not disappointed. Ivan was a great guide, exhibiting a passion for the flora and fauna of the area which was infectious. This is a great way to experience the lush, green world of the Pacific Northwest.

We took the Silver Falls and Columbia River Gorge Tours. Ivan, our guide, picked us up promptly at our downtown Portland hotel and we were greeted with his infectious enthusiasm and great coffee.
The Silver Falls Tour was an excellent 5 mile hiking experience. We were immersed in a picturesque setting of forest, waterfalls, and babbling streams. Ivan highlighted various flora and fauna that are unique to that ecosystem. It was a treat to have a PHD in Zoology as our guide. His depth of knowledge and enthusiasm left us with a lasting respect and admiration for Portland’s greatest treasure. The hike was well paced and accommodated many photo opportunities. A delicious lunch was included in the price of the tour and was carefully selected according to our dietary restrictions. Double Falls served as our ideal picnic spot. What drew us to take this tour was the ability to walk behind the waterfalls, and we were not disappointed!
The Columbia River Gorge Tour started with Ivan describing the formation of the Gorge as he drove us to a park overlooking the river. Using Ivan’s binoculars, we were fortunate to get close-up views of the birds by the river. We then proceeded to our next destination which was a short 1.5 mile hike to one of the many waterfalls in the area. As we hiked along the stream, we saw salmon swimming about and American Dippers flying in and out of the water in search for food. After another tasty lunch at a scenic spot near the river, we proceeded to the fish ladder to witness hundreds of salmon traveling upstream. The tour concluded at the Multnomah Falls, which was truly a sight to see.
Ivan is a remarkable guide and his passion for nature is addictive (thanks to him, we have a better appreciation for the banana slug). When we return to Portland, we will definitely book more tours with Volcano Lands.

I did the Silver Falls tour. Ivan was very knowledgeable and was careful to explain everything so all could hear and understand. The pace was good and it was a delicious local lunch. They offer a discount if staying in certain hostels in Portland and maybe other places, so ask if there are any when you book. It's a beautiful area and worth the money.

We hiked a five mile trail through the Silver Falls area. Our tour guide Ivan was incredibly knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. He set a good pace that was manageable for beginners and medium experienced hikers. It was nice not to have to worry about bringing lunch, etc. I have a food allergy and Ivan made sure that was taken into consideration for lunch. We had the option of doing an additional two miles back to the van or waiting at a lodge for Ivan to bring the around. We were all beginners, so we opted to stay, sit by the fire and grab a beer. It was a total bonus to the trip. All in all a great experience, totally worth the expense.

Loved this tour! Ivan is very knowledgeable and has so much to say during this 6-7 hour tour. He picked me up from my hotel and we drove to the gorge. Our first stop was a good scenic view of the gorge followed by a 1.5 hour hike at Latourell Falls. Throughout the hike he talked about the different plants and wildlife in the area as well as the geology of how it was formed. He provided lunch also. Our final stops were the fish hatchery and Multnomah falls which as beautiful. I recommend this tour to anyone!

Hi, I'm visiting Portland from Sept. 18th to 23rd, and would like to join your tour. I checked your web site but could not find any tour during my stay. Is there any tour available? I would like to join River Gorge tour if available.
Thank you.

we are a family of 3 planning a trip to Columbia River Gorge around early to mid September. Our 18 year old loves science, but he also has some issues that make hiking more than a couple of miles hard for him. He also has fairly bad OCD and likes "real" bathrooms. We read your great reviews and wonder how much one of your day tours is? We would likely be in the van with a couple of other people, right? Thanks for info! newman@umich.edu

Ivan's van holds 10. It has two bathroom stops, but one of the bathroom is more of a porta-potty type stall. Ivan has a PhD in Zoology and really knows his stuff, even digs for salamanders. I don't know where you'd get this kind of attention to detail or passion.

Hi
we will be in Portland next Sunday and would love to see some of the natural beauty outside of Portland. Could you tell me if you are available, what choices do we have to see, and how much would it be.
thank you
