The movie selections are always top notch indie features. The prices are very reasonable. The butter for the popcorn is real butter. They are located in great neighborhood for eats and drinks before or afterwards. They have their own parking lots a couple blocks away.

Not only does 21st Avenue have great restaurants and stores, it has this superb small movie theater. A really good selection of films that don't hit the majors.

Haven't been to Cinema 21 in the funky Northwest Portland area in years. The area has even more bars and restaurants filled with hipsters than I remember. Narrow shaded streets with limited parking opportunities. But Cinema 21 is even better than I remember. First run art films. My pass was $6.50-- yes, $6.50, not $16.50! My medium soda and medium... Went to the Sound of Music Experience to sing along, hiss the Baroness, and wave our Eidelwiess. Silly and fun. Like Mystery Science Theatre with singing and a good movie. Comfortable, well-spaced seating, clean space, cheap popcorn, wine and beer. Free parking 3 blocks to the north at Legacy business office, 20th and Lovejoy. Great family-friendly time. They have lots... More

A great smallish theatre in the NW area of Portland. They show more the independent kind of movies and no so much the huge blockbusters. The guy at the ticket window was fast and friendly, as was the rest of the staff I encountered. The bathroom was cleaned and smelled of obvious bleach and cleaning. The seats were comfy. I'd come... Cinema 21 is a throwback to the era of fine independent movie houses. This is a great place in Portland for excellent indie and foreign films - these are the only films they show. Every great town has to have one of these theatres, and this is one of Portland's best. This is where the best cinema is.

We went to a couple of films here that were being screened as part of the Portland International Film Festival. Non-Festival films being shown were also of high critical regard. I don't know if this is typical for this theatre, but that would be my guess. Cinema 21 is old and classic: it is spacious, completely comfortable, and sells inexpensive... More

It's been such a long time since we have gone here, that I was pleasantly surprised at the added movie spaces they had opened up. We were spending the Valentines weekend in the NW area, and I was looking to add to my movie going another Oscar Nominee, when I found that the "Brooklyn" was playing here, so we made... More

This great cinema has expanded and is now three times better than before! It's always been one of the most interesting and enjoyable cinema experience in Portland and it certainly continues to be so.

The movie theater located in NW district near many good restaurants. Before 6pm cost only $7.5. Though only 3 movies at a time, but they are unique and good taste.
