Work on the Broadway Bridge has just been completed and its antiquated system of drawing up for ship traffic rebuilt. It' an interesting story to read before or after visiting the bridge. There are so many ways to take this in; streetcar, buses, cars, bikes, and just walking. It's one of the iconic Portland bridges but this one, being higher over the river, offers terrific views in both directions, upriver and downriver.

The Broadway Bridge is a rall-type bascule bridge built in 1913.It is painted Golden Gate red. And has been on the National Register Of Historic Places since 2012.
The Broadway Bridge carries vehicles, the Portland Streetcar, bicyclist, and pedestrians. The bridge has great views of the Willamette River, the other bridges and the surrounding downtown area east and west of the river.
On the south side of the Broadway bridge is Union Sation. On the north side of the bridge is the Alber Milling Company Building. The Moda Center and Memorial Coliseum are nearby just to the east of the bridge.

One of the many famed bridges of Portland, it's more than just a pathway across the river. Ride over on a bike like a true hipster and enjoy the view.

Complete with streetcar, vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians, this is another Portland bridge that has evolved to handle a variety of uses. Set higher then many of the other bridges (see Hawthorne, Steel, Morrison, Burnside) the views from it can do a vista viewer good. The red frame of the bridge also sets it apart, making it look more cheerful to me (obviously a matter of perception). If you research quickly one will also find it now dates to over a 100 years of use, so give the bridge some props for looking so nice after all these years of hard work.
