If you’re in, around, or just kind of near Portland, the McMenamins Kennedy School is an absolute must-visit. It doesn’t even really matter what you’re looking for – movies, music, a nice meal out, or even just a pleasant stroll through an interesting area, they’ve got all your options in one sprawling, glorious place. As you walk through old school... More

This attraction was one of the coolest places I've stumbled upon while traveling the US cities. It's an old school that they preserved that serves as an accommodation (hotel stay, limited rooms), 6 bars, a movie theater, and an attraction. The hallways are super cool to walk through and look at pictures from the past and read about the history... More

Good grief could the rooms be smaller? No tv. No walking room loud in corridor. We actually stayed one night then hastened back to Cannon beach. We also had dinner here in a crowded restaurant actually the food was good and the atmosphere friendly

They say Portland is weird. In many effects it's just a marketing thing more than the actual truth, but there are some pretty odd places to go in Portland. McMenamins Kennedy School is certainly one of them. There's a good chance you dreamed of having a beer in the school basement or having a cigar in the Principals office when... More

Where to start? Perhaps with my incredulous "We're going _where_ for lunch...?!!" Fortunately, my better half had done her research... and I'm now stuck searching for sufficiently-unique adjectives to describe the magical transformation of school-to-adult-amusement-park! Had we not been on a tight schedule, I'd probably _still_ be there, taking in the wonderful, seemingly-endless cultural / historical / educational / horticultural... More

This could be my favorite review in recent history. Thank you so much! We are so glad you enjoyed your visit and hope you'll have more time the next time you're in town. I'll be sure to share your comments about the halibut with our Chef. Have a wonderful fall. Cheers! Mel Jensen Principal McMenamins Kennedy School More

A local friend took me there for lunch on a Wednesday. Could not believe how great the experience was. A converted school with bars, good food, outdoor eating, local micro beers. The refurbished school property is amazing. Walking the halls and rooms looking at the great variety of art works and art deco pieces. I need to go back and... More

I booked a room here To stay on 8/26/16. After supplying my credit card over the phone I thought I was all set for my arrival and relaxation. After driving close to 4hours to start my one night stay before surgery I arrived with my room ready. I was informed I needed my physical card on hand even though they... More

I am very sorry to hear about your experience. It is our policy to physically see the credit card as well as run it through our system via it's magnetic stip. In this day and age with so much credit card fraud it is meant to be a measure to protect our guests. We apologize that this caused you an... More

This place is not what you expect. It's awesome and the food is really good. It took me back to when I was in Elementary, but without all the drinks.

We were extremely interested in the concept of The Kennedy School, but from the moment we walked in the door, it felt like a "zoo". Wherever we went it seemed frenetic; there are lots of different spaces, and lots of queues. It's clearly a hugely popular weekend destination for families and big groups. We made a quick escape.

I am very sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy your visit. Weekends and evenings can be quite busy but we don't like to hear that it wasn't comfortable and fun. If you ever get by this way again, the feel of the school can be much more relaxed and less zoo like mid week and in the mornings. We... More

So many different things to do here in this renovated school. Have drinks in detention, or down the hall at the honor bar. There is a soaking pool as well as a restaurant. Bartenders are knowledgeable and fun.
