An ordinary city hall, which was a little bit smaller than I expected. It is very close to Portlandia.

I have traveled all over the world and been to almost every state. The last 5 days in Portland, Oregon with my 15 year old son was astonishing. Portland has been ruined. Massive drug use, tens of thousands of homeless people, people walking around like zombies in the middle of the day, tents everywhere, human waste all over, trash.
I am never coming back nor would I recommend anyone to go. You will feel unsafe and watching over your back the entire time. I can’t believe this is the US. The people running the city and state should be ashamed.

Portland is not a nice place to visit. Full of addicts, homeless & trash. The drivers in the city are extremely rude. Not a place I'd bring my family.
The city blogs boast good food but throughout my stay there I got food poisoning once and was grossed out by another restaurants uncleanliness. The kitchen workers mostly appear to be foreign & handle the food without gloves or hair nets. Once out of the city Oregon is beautiful, but the city itself is a mess.

We went by while we were looking for the Portlandia statue which we found out later was boarded up since the riots. Unfortunately, much of the City Hall was boarded up as well, which says a lot about the city as a whole. I know they had a problem with riots but other places we visited, including Minneapolis, had already repaired much of the damage done, Portland seems to not care about tourist dollars. Most of the city is either filthy dirty, tagged, or filled with homeless who just want money, not food, or some combination of all three. Of all the places we went on our road trip Portland was one of the two places we looked most forward to leaving. There are stores with 10' fences around them and armed security, even the donut place we visited had a security officer! The sad thing is there are a lot of cool things in Portland, it's just very uncomfortable and aggravating to visit any of them. We walked about 6 blocks to get to the courthouse and in that time we were approached by 11 homeless asking for money. If I were visiting the area again I would have a t-shirt made that says "I'm not your ATM".

This building is an old stone building. It’s pretty nice looking. It looks like it escaped a lot of the tagging that hit the rest of downtown. Nice to look at.

The Portland City Hall is an unsafe, dangerous and threatening building to visit as is the entire city of Portland.
I would NEVER recommend visiting the city hall or the city of Portland. You are putting yourself and your family or workers in grave danger!

I recently went to Portland with my daughter to spend a couple days. The hotel we stayed at was great but overall Portland was very disappointing. The zoo was fantastic but the downtown core of Portland was dirty. There are more homeless people than I expected. I saw homeless injecting themselves, cursing, vomiting on sidewalk and defecating in the parks. I understand that all cities are experiencing the homeless problem but I didn’t expect it to this level. Overall I did not enjoy the stay there and the smell of urjne in the air. I was glad to leave and go down the coast home. Unfortunately I had heard so many good things about Portland and really wanted to enjoy it. I don’t see myself going back. Although donuts were really good.

(Can't find a place where you can review a city overall so this will have to do)
Was really looking forward to visiting Portland but left with very mixed emotions. Sort of a parallel universe in a way. The number of homeless, many of them young with mental health issues was very confronting. I thought there would be minimal cars but they were constant (admittedly it was the solar eclipse w/e).
On the other hand we enjoyed the music, restaurants, the park and the river hence the 3 star rating and not lower.
All in all I was expecting Portland to be a fantastic smaller outdoor city very laid back but just couldn't get over the level of homeless people.

Portland City Hall is a very distinctive looking four-story Italian Renaissance-style building built in 1895. It has a sandstone exterior and takes up a full city block. And it has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
There are landscaped grounds around City Hall with a Statue of a large bell that reminds me a little bit of the Liberty Bell. The main entrance is located on SW Fourth Avenue facing the East and Terry Schrunk Plaza.
Terry Schrunk Plaza just is one block to the East of City hall. It makes for a nice relaxing place to enjoy a park setting and not feel like you are totally trapped in the cement jungle of downtown Portland.

Happy Cup Coffee, a very Portland kind of enterprise, has been providing coffee and breakfast and lunch to employees and visitors who come to City Hall. Highly rated coffee in the City's tradition is roasted right in town, has a mission--to provide employment for people with disabilities. From your seat in the atrium you can watch an elaborate early elevator--and comings and goings of the people who run Portland.
