A very low keyed informative museum on Jewish history primarily in Portland. My wife is Jewish so we have been to other museums on Jewish history. The others we visited centered around the Holocaust. This one had a lot of local history which was nice. Well worth the admission charge and time.

what a wonderful new space has been found by the Oregno Jjewish Museum, now located at 1953 NW Kearny.

not only can more of the collection be displayed, traveling shows have arrived, the archives are bigger, there is an art deco film theatre and they share space with the Oregon Holocaust Resource Center. Fantastic Resource !!!!

The museum is well designed and the multiple exhibits each provide a high level of value and depth of information. It is an exceptional addition to the Portland community and something everyone should plan to visit.

We took 120 15-16 year olds to visit this museum today. The Docents were wonderful, the activities interactive, and even though the students have studied the topic, it was very different from the Jewish perspective. In addition the exhibits bring the ideas into the present here in Oregon. The Jewish cultural exhibits are also very interesting. A good way to spend an hour or two expanding your cultural awareness.

The museum is not very large but it is impactful. They did a wonderful job exhibiting the local jewish community and how far it has come. They had a special exhibit on Loda, Poland which was very good. Enjoyed the photographers film on what he had to do to hide his photos to preserve them.

We spent about an hour at this museum during our day exploring the center of Portland. We thought it was very informative about the history of the Jewish community in Oregon which is similar to Jewish history in other metros but with some distinct Oregon flavor. We also liked the exhibition on the history of discrimination and resistance in Oregon. It’s apparently the only museum in the state that displays that dark part of Oregon as part of a permanent collection. There was also a small exhibit on the Holocaust, a children’s play area, an extensive Mezuzah collection, and a gallery space for special exhibitions.

Like the San Francisco Jewish Museum (but much smaller) it has a limited permanent collection and temporary exhibitions. Worth a brief stop.

I am used to seeing major exhibits at the Jewish Museum in New York so I was intrigued as to what Portland's small space had to offer. It moved into this location, a neighborhood of art galleries, last summer and I had walked by a couple of times. Seeing a story about it's current exhibit "Vedem" I was encouraged to make a trip to the museum, I was most impressed by the educational of this exhibit as well as the permanent exhibits. It has a nice little cafe and also a perfect gift shop. All in all a small but outstanding museum well worth a visit.

The synergy of the merger of two organizations has taken the best and made it even better. The changing museum exhibits highlight various local artists that impacted Portland. The permanent exhibit, the Oregon Holocaust Memorial in Washington Park is a must to see. Docents can be requested through OJMCHE and add an in depth perspective on the building of the memorial as well as the history it represents. The Memorial reminds us of the dangers of prejudice and the hope of a world at peace.

I happened to pass by the museum as I saw they had an exhibit about Leonard Bernstein. The museum is small but the staff are very helpful and the holocaust exhibit was very nice. It is a nice way to spend a couple of hours and great for kids.
