Wallace Park is a four-acre park named after Hugh Wallace who was a city councilman. The park has basketball courts, soft ball and soccer fields, places for picnics, and a playground. There are restroom facilities and an area for you to take your dogs

Chapman elementary school is next to the park and becomes a Hitchcock-like bird event in the fall when thousands of Vaux's Swifts gather overhead each night in September an hour before sunset. Creating spectacular funneling vortex as they dive-- pouring down into the school's large chimney.

Portland Audubon volunteers are generally on hand on most nights during this time to share information about the Vaux's Swifts.

Wonderful Park a couple of blocks square. Equipment, paths and pergolas and gazebos. The big plus is that this park is next to Chapman elementary school where in September you can see a huge flock Vaux swifts roost in the chimney every night during their fall migration. Really dramatic and fun. Draws a crowd of onlookers clapping and watching the swifts return every year.

What a pleasure it was to walk between Wallace City Park and Chapman Elementary School and see families everywhere, playing ball, having a picnic, sitting in lawn chairs with friends and exercising their dogs. The park and school together provide baseball diamonds, tennis courts, a dog park, basketball courts, a shelter, and more.
