My partner wanted to try something different on her birthday. We had spent nearly a month in Portland and we sadly put off going to Common Ground. It is everything the website claims : open, friendly, professional, inclusive and inexpensive. The relaxation is up to you. We imagine some people, like us, might find a clothing optional spa to be outside their comfort zone. We opted to remain clothed and we were the only prudes in swim suits. In retrospect, we could have made more of the friendly and safe atmosphere and join the other portlandians in their birthday suits. When in Rome...

From the welcoming at front desk to the last minutes of my massage; which I should have taken for a longer time, everything was just great. I am an experienced naturist, having visited many places around the world that do offer this freedom of choice of wearing something or nothing at all and I must say that it is one of the best I have been; one litle downsaide is that there is steamroom, which I like very much, but the sauna is great. I already booked my next massage and soak session. I do recommend! Some people are turned down by the fact that they hold drining licence and phone and sunglasses at the reception desk at all time; I have no problem with this; they apply their rules the best they can and I do understand the need for it.

Common Ground is a wonderful place to soak your weary bones and enjoy a lovely outdoor hot spa in the cool, rainy Pacific Northwest. As others have noted, it's co-ed clothing optional and every time I've gone all the patrons have been nude. It's an even mix of men and women, with people of all ages and body types - it skews a little older and a little more hippy than Everett House (a similar co-ed spa a few miles away). While this arrangement may not be for everyone, I really recommend that you try it out. It couldn't be more comfortable and doesn't feel icky in the least. No one judges you, or really pays you much attention at all. It is so refreshing to be uninhibited in our generally body conscious culture. This is a gem of a spot.

There are better places. Place was way too warm needed to put the air conditioning on they said it wasn't working. I asked if I could have water they I looked like I was Chinese so they told me I don't need any. I asked if I could use the restroom and they said no you should have gone before you entered the building. And then they told me they were going to charge me 3.73 times the normal rate they would normally charge someone for asking what they called nonsense questions.

I had a really bad first experience and will never be back. The visit started off with the host having me and my boyfriend read through their policies. I quickly looked through the rules and signed my name. After this was done I was charged $6 more than the price that was listed on their website. I let it go because I didn't feel like arguing as I just wanted to soak and enjoy my afternoon. After I paid I was asked to leave my driver's license with them which I found a little unsettling. I complied and was then asked to turn over my cell phone! I stated that I would just run out to my car and leave it there instead as I thought their request was beyond inappropriate. While in the parking lot my boyfriend stated that he did not feel comfortable soaking there as he found requests in their polices to infringe on personal liberties. The policies stated they would not allow touching such as holding hands or other simple displays of affection!!! It felt like such a repressed environment! We returned to the front desk and notified them that we did not agree with their policies got our drivers licences and left the establishment.

We do not allow any photo capable devices in a nude bathing environment. It makes a LOT of sense.

I went in there feeling really good and the lady at the desk told me to get out she said. She said we don't serve your kind leave or I call the police. I said I wanted a massage and she said I don't care. I asked her if she had the right to kick me out as another massage therapist backed her up worst place ever don't give them your business they don't deserve it.

It sounds like there might have been issues about respecting peoples privacy in our clothing optional environment. Not everyone is ready for it- and we are pretty adamant about making sure this is a safe, non-sexual space. Our policies are important and we will refuse entry to those who do not respect them.

My wife and I went for a hydro therapy session as a recommendation from our Airbnb host. Small but adequate, this spa is very friendly and clean. Most patrons are nude which may be an issue for some. We felt comfortable and welcome and had a nice visit.if Very reasonable price for use of facility.

I very much enjoyed my recent visit here. The location, although on a busy street, is quite practical in terms of things like - having a large parking lot in front. And the outside hot tub/jacuzzi & it's surrounding area is quite private & spacious. The building itself seems small, but is set up well, providing an over-all relaxing & comfortable atmosphere throughout.
I had a one-hour, deep-tissue massage here, which I cannot speak highly enough about! The masseur was highly-qualified, & was able to inform me of a muscular problem I was having, which had been unrecognized previously.
The changing area is quite small, with only small cubby-holes to place one's belongings in. Anything valuable should be left behind at the front desk with the staff, before going back into the common areas. It is mostly co-ed & all clothing optional. But it was a very wholesome & healthy atmosphere. However, they also offer "women only", "men only" & even "lgbtq only" time slots. I think the calendar is available on their website. Calling in advance is always required, to be sure they don't become over-crowded, which I appreciate.
The shower area is sufficient & there is lots of room outside around the spacious hot tub/jacuzzi. I
I saw that they have quite affordable yearly rates, & personally, if I lived there I would go there often! They also have a sauna, & provide other health-promoting services, such as naturopathic & acupuncture sessions, plus information about other related activities. Highly recommended for general health & relaxation.

I love the concept, which is a co-ed clothing optional bath house. There's not a lot of places where you can enjoy a large hot tub and sauna with a spouse or significant other, sans unnecessary bathing suits. The concept is great.....what could improve somewhat is the execution. Specifically, the landscaping around the hot tub left a lot to be desired, tending towards bare concrete. Dress it up a little, add some flowers, color, art pieces, whatever. Lockable lockers (vice just an exposed cubby) in the changing area would be another easy improvement. There's a similar facility in town with an identical concept that does both of those things better.......great concept, just keep working on the execution!

I love the Common Grounds Wellness space. The experience is more affordable than some of the other options in Portland, and the membership passes make things even more of a deal! I love the hot tub, and the sauna is spacious and quiet. The front desk makes sure not to allow to many people into the space at one time, insuring a quiet restful retreat experience. Thank you to the Common Grounds Family!
