We spent the day with Dillan rolling around the beautiful Willamette Valley. He orchestrated a thoughtful group of stops based on our tastes, price point and feedback on previously visited vineyards. We had a most delish sandwich for lunch from a local market and enjoyed some wonderful wines. A definite plus was the large van which helped a bit with the motion sickness from the rolling hills. All in all a great day.

Our guide was Jeffery. He picked us up at our home and chauffeured us for the day. Our ride was a comfortable Ford Transit Van.
At our first stop Jeffery had arranged a private tasting. We were met at the door with a glass of wine to sip, as we toured the production facilities and adjacent vineyard. When the tour was done we had three different Pinots to sample.
We continued on to three other wineries which were just tastings. Each winery handles their tastings a little differently than the next. But the basics are the same. Each day they have a menu of three to six featured wines, which you can sample for a small fee; $15 to $30. The tasting pours were all generous amounts. If you purchase a bottle then the tasting fee is generally waived.
In between the second and third stops, we had lunch at a wonderful sandwich place in Carlton, The Horse Radish. Lunch was included in the price of the tour.
While initially, the price of the tour seemed high, the education we received from our guide and the tasting room folks was worth the price.
Tasting room fees are not included in the tour price, but generally buying one bottle will cover the cost. And even if you don’t buy something, $15 to $30 is reasonable to try several different wines.
Finally, we could have gone to each of these tasting rooms on our own. But I doubt we could have arranged the production facility tour. And certainly after sampling 12 to 15 different wines, driving yourself would be out of the question.
If you’re interested in wine then this tour is a must-do.

Look no further...Backcountry Wine Tours is the best wine touring company hands down! We spent three days with Jack and Dillon visiting some of the best boutique wineries. We only requested one winery to visit and they built the rest of the tour based on our request. Their selection was off the charts!! Needless to say, we purchased wine from all nine wineries and joined two wine clubs. Their knowledge of the area was like a tour on its own. Jack and Dillon are super knowledgeable and oh so friendly. We felt like we had known them for years. Not to mention the charcuterie tray that Jack prepared for one of our lunches was off the charts! Your lunch choices were top notch too! We can't stop talking about our sandwiches from The Horse Radish and Trellis. We look forward to visiting again and seeking out more of your favorite wineries. We look forward to seeing you in Florida this December to promote the Cascadia Wine Club. Thank you again for an over-the-top experience!!!

My girlfriend and I did a private tour with Backcountry in mid-August 2021 and were thrilled with our day in wine country! Jack made setting up the tour extremely easy and Aron was a fantastic guide - extremely knowledgeable and a pleasure to spend the day with. We already had booked one tasting, and Jack worked with us to build a day around that, selecting two other producers to help give us a unique look at the various types of winemaking operations in the Willamette region. While there were only two of us, the Transit van Aron drove us around in was sparkling clean and seemingly brand new and we would have been plenty comfortable with a much larger group. I highly recommend Backcountry if you are looking for a private tour of the Willamette Valley!!

First let me just say that Dillon and BWT totally met and surpassed our expectation! When we were planning this trip, my husband and I (mostly I) were completely overwhelmed with all of the different wineries. On blogs I kept seeing the same wineries with the same generic descriptions. We did not want to go to those. Google showed a ton of other wineries but we had no idea if they were good or not. After researching different tour companies we chose BWT and they sent us a questionnaire. On it we indicated that we wanted to go to at least 4 wineries and to please bring us to ones we might not find on our own. The day of our tour they paired us with a fun couple, we definitely made our goal of 4 stops, and we completely exceeded any goal of wine mini/max we may have had. Each wine and their selection of wines were better than the last! The wineries we visited were Hazelfern, Patricia Green, Trisaetum, and Bergstrom (in that order). Dillon really kept us on schedule while providing informative tidbits about the area's history and wine in general. At our second winery he went off to pick up our lunch, which we ate between wineries. At the 3rd winery we all got a bit chatty and Dillon kindly reminded us when we had to leave (we also asked him to keep us on track). At the end of the day we were exhausted, happy, and glad to have spent the afternoon with Dillon, BWT, and our new friends. Dillon also facilitated shipping our wines back home for us.

We are Portland locals and booked a trip with Backcountry for my wife's birthday. It was the first time in 20 years that we did any wine touring in Oregon. Boy, were we blown away with how the wine industry has grown. It was a beautiful, but cold, weekend. We had a wonderful time. Our driver and tour guide did a great job telling us about the region and took us to some very good small'ish wineries we would never have discovered otherwise. Overall, we were very pleased with Backcountry and would highly recommend them. If you're undecided about a personal or joinable tour, I'd recommend the joinable tour. It was a lot more fun with a larger group and we met some interesting people on our tour.

One other comment, wine touring/tasting is expensive. Be prepared to purchase wine at each winery. Unfortunately, tasting fees have gotten out of control. $40 is not uncommon. We were able to get the fees waived at all but one winery by purchasing wine. A good Pinot is $30-50 a bottle (or more). We ended up with a case of very good wine from three wineries. Overall, our weekend cost us near $1,000 with a excellent dinner at the Joe Palmer House and a one-night stay at the Setting Inn. Again, the extravagence was for my wife's birthday and we have no regrets.

We booked a tour with Backcountry Wine Tours for my best friend's bachelorette party and we had the most wonderful experience! Jack was really responsive and easy to coordinate with, especially since we had to cancel the original booking due to COVID and rebook the following year. He picked three beautiful wineries for us, and was even able to change one last minute due to a heat wave in Oregon, so we could be comfortable in air conditioning. Our guide, Dillon, was great, and didn't seem to mind us signing show tunes in the van after the third winery too much. Overall, excellent experience, and everyone, especially the bride-to-be, had a fantastic time. Would definitely book again or recommend to a friend.

Yay! We're so glad you had such a good time. I know the heat wave was a bit much but I'm glad we were able to make the best of it. Come back any time! Cheers, Jack

After doing a lot of research, we selected Backcountry Wine Tours as we felt they best fit what we were looking for in a private wine tour. Jack arrived promptly to pick us up for our day of adventure. We quickly learned he was a fellow Wisconsinite!

Jack is extremely knowledgeable and used the drive to the first winery to educate us about the region, grapes, wines and wineries. It was great to hear about the area and wines before arriving at the first winery.

Our first stop was Proteus/Aerea where we had a tasting with winemaker Ian. After tasting a few wines, Ian took us out to the vineyard and gave us each an ATV ride through the vineyard. After the ATV rides, Ian showed us the wine-making process and we got to taste some of the work in progress. The highlight of this stop was being able to get into the fermenter to push the skins down into the liquid. Was a bit of a challenge getting out and I don't think Ian will do that again on a tour.

The next stop was J. Christopher. They offered a gorgeous view that we enjoyed while eating the lunch provided by Backcountry.

The last stop was Arlyn. We were inspired by the winemaker's story. We loved all her wine and had a blast with all the animals. It was the perfect way to end the day.

I would highly recommend Backcountry Wine Tours to anyone looking for a great, worry-free way to see wine country.

I HIGHLY recommend Dillon and the team at Backcountry Wine Tours! We used them on my bachelorette party in the Willamette Valley. They were incredibly receptive to our requests and preferences on our pre-tour questionnaire. The van was comfy and very clean with plenty of space for our group of 7. Dillon provided us with fun facts and tidbits about the area throughout the drive from winery to winery. We only really requested one specific winery and left the other two up to Dillion and he KILLED IT. Our views were incredible and the wine was delicious. We were also seated immediately and our tables were setup everywhere we went. Lunch was yummy and a great portion (thanks to Stoller Estate). He even took some fun group photos of us at each stop. Maybe most importantly with my crew, Dillon kept us on track so that we could maximize our tour. He picked us up and dropped us off at our Airbnb in Newberg. Overall, it made the day incredibly fun, stress free, and unforgettable! Thank you Dillon!

We booked this outing for the two of us and our daughter and her husband who live in England. We haven't seen them in over 2 years so it made for a nice day together visiting boutique wineries in a beautiful country setting. Kasey arrived at the scheduled time and texted me ahead of time to let me know he was on his way. The vehicle used to transport us was very nice with comfortable seating. If I had any complaint it would be the quality of the suspension. It rode terribly over some of the rough roads we were on. Maybe it needs some upgrading or replacement parts. Other than that, our experience was thoroughly pleasant. Kasey was highly professional, extremely accommodating and very friendly. Being younger, he had an instant connection with our daughter and husband and their conversations seemed mutually enjoyable. He would always be ready to answer any questions we had and was very pleasant to be around. The day went about as smoothly as you could ask for and we were back at our Portland accommodations probably a little ahead of the anticipated time. We were very pleased with Backcountry and would not hesitate to recommend them to others.
