I had fist stumble upon this old Catholic Church when I was out wandering around the edge of the Pearl District looking for a few intertesting places to check out. As soon as my eyes saw this church it landed on my list of places I wanted to check out. I figured I would attend a Sunday Mass sometime.
Instead I happened to go out in the area on a midweek and very close to the time they have evening Mass-- 6:00 PM. so I walked around and came back and went inside for the mass.
St Patrick Catholic Church is the oldest catholic church in Portland. It was built in the Second Renaissance Style and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places back on May 1st, 1974. It is located on NW 19th almost beneath the Fremont Bridge.
The alter area is very nicely adorned with a lovely set piece of the holy and devine. The walls on the North and South side have rows of Stain Glass. I was sitting on the north side so those were the Saints in glass I was able to admire closely.
the evening mass starts at 6:00 PM and last for only half and hour. There were about a dozen or two worshipers attending. There is no music of course for this Mass and that keeps things pretty much to the service and the Gosple.
After the Mass at 6:30 PM they hold Adoration & confessions. Most of the people that attended the Mass lingered on afterwards to continue with their prayers. Very peaceful. I would like to attend a Sunday Service here in the future. This church has a nice look and feel.
