The Gerding Theater at the Armory is the home of Portland Center Stage, the city's leading professional theater and one of the top 20 largest regional theater companies in the U.S. PCS's mission is to inspire our community by bringing stories to life in unexpected ways. Founded in 1988, PCS attracts more than 150,000 theatergoers annually with its blend of classical, contemporary and world premiere works, along with its summer playwrights festival, JAW. PCS also offers a variety of education and community programs tailored for patrons of all ages. Located in Portland's Pearl District, the Gerding Theater at the Armory houses two theaters: The U.S. Bank Main Stage and the Ellyn Bye Studio. It was the first building on the National Register of Historic Places - and the first performing arts venue - to achieve a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification.

We are always looking for fun plays/musicals to see around PDX, and unfortunately it is rather difficult to catch some good ones without paying a lot of money on a ticket. We've seen a preview of "Little shop of horrors" and had great fun watching it. Seats are very comfortable and given the fact that the Theatre is situated in... More

Having just returned from a week of Broadway shows, I saw the sign for a Streetcar Named Desire while visiting Portland. All that I can say is WOW! I had not expected such a professional company of actors and such a high caliber of theatre on this first time visit to Portland. A standing ovation, from my group to Portland,... More

This is a modern theater beautifully integrated in a historic armory building. The seats are raked from the stage and all sight lines seem very good. There is no center aisle allowing for the best sight lines, but also the longest trip out from your seat to an aisle if you’re in the middle. The lobby and facilities are first... More

We've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed in a performance. This is a small enough theater that every seat seems to have good visibility but we prefer the balcony. Top notch talent, wonderful props and scenery, helpful staff. Nearby restaurants, parking lot, shopping. We do the Sunday mattinee show with lunch/coffee/shops before or after. Very enjoyable!

This was the first time I had been in this building let alone to see a Multi-media event such as the "Overview Effect" in the Portland Center Stage’s intimate Ellyn Bye Studio, great experience.

This is an easy to access facility that was perfect for our affair, which involved both a networking, food, presentations and awards ceremony. Parking can be had at the WFM parking garage ~1 block away, an easy walk. It does fill up even mid week so plan a bit of extra time to park.

Went here on my birthday weekend to see Great Expectations. Got there early and enjoyed a wonderful glass of wine and admired the beautiful architecture of the building itself. When entering to find seats got to hear a wonderful talk about the play and the first-person, third-person voices the actors would use as well as how the actors made all... More

Forays into the theatre district of most U.S. cities can be fraught with traffic hassles, high cost and questionable performances. This venue provided none of these. An easy 10 mile commute from the suburbs, affordable parking a block from the door, friendly and efficient staff at the bar for pre-show drinks and a very understanding usher combined to make this...
