I remember when rides used to scare you rather than make you feel sick. Line for race cars was too long. I would have tried a few more rides but wasn't feeling well after a couple, also a bit tired before I came thought getting out would help me snap out of it, but not those rides

A visit at the Oaks Amusement Park is like a quick trip back in time. Lots of old school rides and activities in a scenic setting!

What's good:
- No admission & plenty of free parking
- You can buy tickets in small increments (no day pass needed)
- Picnic tables right next to the river! Scenic view of Portland.
- It's pretty close to downtown - easy access.
- Rides for all ages and interests.
- General "good old times" atmosphere with old rides.
- Manageable size. Easy to walk around and enjoy.
- You can reserve tables/halls for parties.

What might need improvement:
- Not too much choice of food. But then again, that's not the point.
- The go-kart course is a bit small.

In summary, it's a great place to go on a sunny afternoon and give your kid the kinds of great memories you still have of amusement parks.

....don't bother to visit. There are plenty of things in Portland to do. For native's it's one of the closest amusement parks. It's fun but geared towards younger children. The roller rink is a nice touch and is included with some wrist bands. Recently, they have added a short mini-golf course.

In the Pacific Northwest there are not many amusement parks. If you want high, fast roller coasters this is not your park. The thrill rides are pretty average for adults and teens. But it is fun to visit during festivals or with friends.

Long story short. I showed up for a birthday party at 345pm and spent over $50 on bracelets. I looked around for a sign to tell me what time they close but couldn't find one. I figured I would at least have 2 to 3 hours before they close. I was wrong. After saying hi to the birthday girl we get on one ride then hear an announcement that the park closes at 5pm. Angry, I let my wife take my kids on another ride while I go ask for some kind of refund. After searching for the right person for 45min I found the guy. He belittled me and talked to me like I was a child. After arguing with the guy that I would not have paid that much money knowing we would only get to rides he tells me no refunds. So I post my experience on facebook to bring awareness to what happened and the replied saying they would be in contact with me soon. They then deleted my post. I will not be going back because the customer service is terrible.

I wish I could give this place a good review because me and my kids had so much fun on all the rides this was our first time ther as a family due to my husband company picnic but I just could not beleave some of the things that came out of the mouths of the people that worked ther i did not notice it until it became dark it was like all the workers attitudes changed I know they probly have to put up with alot of these punks that go to cause trouble but ther also are alot of young kids around and familys ther to have a good time and the things me and my children had to listen too due to the fact that the workers would sit ther and cuss at kids that wher cuting in line wich I think is totally wrong I dont think any one working ther should be able to use such language while getting paid I just couldn't beleave they would sit ther and get in yelling matches with lil punk kids not even caring that ther is lil kids around and all they do is make the situation worse its like the workers enjoy fighting with these children not even caring about others that have to stand ther in line and lisen to the filth from ther mouths I just was shocked and verry disappointed that my kids and other children had to hear this even when we wernt waitn in line we had to hear this lady that was Saling stuff right across from the arcade she was bigger and middle aged siting ther cusing at children in the arcade she was very loud about it . I know I definitely wont be back due to this experience and will warn all parents with young children not to go

We had a great time here! in one visit we played frisbee and had a picnic on the beach, went on a few rides and went roller skating! it was a full day of fun. the place was clean for the most part, (avoid the women's rest room near the roller rink, inside the rink was the best bathroom), the staff were friendly and attentive (we felt safe on the rides) and the parking was free. plus it was beautiful, lovely trees and views of the river.
we brought our own food in for our picnic.

Oaks Park continues to update its small amusement park located in a shady grove above the Willamette River. Though it opened in 1905 and reminders of its history as Portland's then-suburban getaway abound, the amusement park is well maintained and freshly painted. Hard to find any rust, dust, or other damages of time throughout the small midway of rides.

The ride bracelet deals are good because kids can jump back on the rides they like - usually immediately because lines are short. There are enough rides that adults will like to make the bracelets worthwhile to them as well. Coupled with free admission to the park, the bracelets make the day a very affordable one.

The staff is friendly and well-presented. Not a bunch of carnies. These are mostly kids working for the summer. I really enjoyed an outing here with my child because it keeps one foot in an old Portland setting and the other in a clean, well-run amusement operation.

This place is very affordable...They always have special offers and there're a lot of rides for children (3-8)...it's not the best place for teenagers or adults...still I consider it a 5star(their restrooms need remodeling)

The Oaks has been a regular stop for our family while in Portland during the warm weather. It has a decent selection of old-school rides, although, admittedly, more suited for the pre-teen or younger crowd. Parking is convenient an free, food is simple but not too expensive and the ride all day bracelets don't break the bank either. Look on the website for special deals that run all season long. The kids can win some independence because the park is not big enough to lose them in for any frightening period of time. There are also lots of fun arcade games and the arcade where there's ski ball, etc, and you win tickets to turn in for prizes at the end actually has some prizes that my kids were excited about getting! The food is decent, although there are very nice picnic grounds right next to the rides so you can easily bring your own feast. Sometimes you get lucky and there are bands playing, often celebrating high school reunions so the music fits right in to the atmosphere. Don't miss the go-carts... they require extra tickets (not included in the ride all day bracelets) but they are worth it. Free with the bracelets is a ticket to go roller skate at the historical skating pavilion on-site. My kids loved it! One last tip: if you bring your bikes the Oakes sits adjacent to a bike trail that runs up the length of the river, in case you feel you have to clear your head from all the cotton candy and tilt-a-whirl! For dinner, zip over the bridge to Sellwood. If it's not too late, you can even visit a couple of antique or salvage stores on SE 13th Avenue while you're there. In short, a great day out!

Ride attendants are not properly trained. I rode on the childrens' roller coaster with my 5 year old son, and the operating attendant forgot to check that all safety equipment was in place. Our car, plus the one in front of us, was left without the safety bar/lap bar secure. The attendant operated the ride despite our best attempts to scream at her to stop. Luckily this is a childrens' ride, so there were no fast drops or upside down areas. However, if I had not been in the car with my son (he is old enough and tall enough to ride it by himself), it's quite likely his little 50lb body could have gone flying out.
I complained to management, they apologized profusely and assured me this would never happen again.
Seems like a fun, old-fashioned place, but they need an update. As I mentioned, ride attendants are not properly trained, and the rides themselves are grossly outdated and need newer safety features.
I cannot recommend this place to anyone
