We really enjoyed our time here in the fall. Gardens are very pretty and for us, it was clear enough to see Mt. Hood. The admission price is a bit steep, however.More

We are glad you enjoyed your visit to the Garden and appreciate you sharing your experience. Regarding our admission prices, unlike Portland's many parks (which receive funding from the city), we are a private charitable, not-for-profit organization. Our operating budget comes from gate admissions, retail...More

Having lived many years in Japan, I found no lack of authenticity in this garden. Surely the best Japanese garden I have visited outside Japan. Excellent cafe as well, run by Ajinomoto. Only unpleasant surprise was the price tag, which is far more than double...More

Visited right before Thanksgiving. Setting is stunning with incredible view over the city with Mt. Hood looming over the cityscape. A photographers dream. Go later in the day when afternoon light is shining on Mt. Hood. Garden is just gorgeous and so peaceful. Spend time...More

We were here on a very cool misty fall day and the gardens were just gorgeous. The maples with their vivid colors, and the paths with little hidden spots are wonderful and so calming. There's a lovely waterfall spot with a koi pond, a stone...More

I was traveling alone and found it a bit out of the way but it is very beautiful as are the close by rose gardens. I recommend both. The shuttle driver in park was super nice and helpful

These gardens were beautiful; God's handiwork is amazing. Wonderful fall color even in mid-November. Takes about 2+ hours to go through if you stop at the little Japanese cafe as well. Highly recommend this outdoor experience if you are visiting Portland!! Just make sure you...More

Portland Japanese Garden is a very authentic Japanese Garden. It has a very similar feel of traditional Japanese gardens you will encounter in Kyoto.

We were amazed at the beauty and colors at the Portland Japanese Gardens! Spent about 3 1/2 peaceful hours there. They have gorgeous, maintained paths, bridges and assorted, fun walkways to each different area. Not easy for wheelchairs, or people with unstable walking. Many stairs,...More

There is a ticket office where you purchase your tickets for entry that may stow your luggage for you. On our visit I didn’t see anyone with luggage so can’t be sure. The international rose garden across the street is public... More

Hi Cherri, You have a few different options to reach the Portland Japanese Garden: - Bus 63 from Providence Park, will take you right in front of the garden but comes only once per hour - Bus 20, direction west, Tichner... More

No pets are allowed, only ADA (or trained) Service Animals are permitted inside the Garden. If you are in Washington Park, the Rose Garden and Hoyt Arboretum are nearby and allow leashed pets.

Finally booked my plane tix to PDX! and questions! (17 Replies)
So I bought the plane tickets, but now looking for hotel. I had asked in a previous thread on hotel recommendations, but still haven't found anything near downtown that's $100 and under. anyway, some other questions. 1) Can I take public transit to Washington Park? and if I were to visit the International Rose Garden, the Zoo, the Children's Museum, and World Forestry Center, and the Portland Japanese Garden all in the same day, would that be too much? Not sure how big those places...More

Depends on what you mean by 'near'... You won't find anything in/close to downtown that is safe and family friendly for under $100. If you are renting a car, one option is to stay in Vancouver, WA ( cool town across the river) and drive/ride the MAX into downtown... But you CAN find good options for downtown in the 150 range - go to travelportland.com and check out their deal offerings

Are there any good restaurants by Portland Rose Garden, Japanese Garden or Lan Su Chinese Garden? If I had to choose two of them to go to, which would be best for late August? Thanks,

Response fromoregonpoppa|
The Rose Garden and Japanese Garden are side-by-side in Washington Park, within close proximity to both downtown and the NW 23rd st district. The Chinese Garden is downtown next to Chinatown and also close to downtown and the Pearl District. Lots of great restaurants throughout Portland. How close did you want one?.

First Portland trip; 4 day itinerary scheduling help? (14 Replies)
Hi, It's going to be my first visit to Portland this upcoming Memorial day weekend, for 4 days (Saturday, 5/28/2016, returning early morning with a 6:30am flight, Thurs. 6/2/2016). I've put together a tentative itinerary so far, but would appreciate feedback on timing/scheduling since I'm not sure exactly where things are and how much time they'd take. TIps for things to see/do and must-eats would be greatly appreciated as well! Saturday 5/28: depart Orange County, arrive in Portland...More

Dinner suggestions: You don't say where you're staying, but if downtown consider Urban Farmer, Nel Centro, or Little Bird Bistro. There are, of course, hundreds of other choices. If you want to stop somewhere amazing on the way from the airport, consider DOC in NE Portland. In general the ratings on Open Table are usually accurate (more than Yelp) for restaurants. Regarding seeing the falls on the way to Zollers, that is doable. Leave early. You probably don't have time to hike Oneonta,...More
