Our first visit was overwhelming. So many categories of books, so many sections and so many floors, it was a dream come true. I regret not having more time to spend there. And I heard that I missed the rare book section on the top...More

Powell's is one of the most important attractions in Portland. Simple as that. Don't visit Portland without visiting Powell's.

Powell's still maintains a massive and comprehensive travel section including paper, fold up maps. Thank heavens. You've got to love books to love this place. Get a store map, ask an employee at the info desk in each room, he or she will not bite....More

This is a huge bookstore, and if you want to check out some books or don’t really know what you want you may usefully spend hours there. However, if you look for some special books (in my case it was neo-impressionist painting) the selection may...More

My friend and I really enjoyed the bookstore. I wish we had had an entire day and not just two hours. If you love books this is your place.

We went there as tourists, not as book buyers, and we weren't disappointed. This store is disorientingly huge. It's literally overwhelming how huge it is. It was quite an experience. I'm glad we went to experience a Portland icon.

Visited whilst staying in Portland on a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle after reading about the place. It is huge; but well organised with different coloured rooms for varying subjects. You can even return books for cash or credit which we did with...More

They have a parking lot! I also usually find parking on the street a couple blocks to the west. And, I often combine Powell's with a stop at Whole Foods, so I park at Whole Foods, go to Powell's, come back to WF and buy what... More
