Our first visit was overwhelming. So many categories of books, so many sections and so many floors, it was a dream come true. I regret not having more time to spend there. And I heard that I missed the rare book section on the top...More
Powell's still maintains a massive and comprehensive travel section including paper, fold up maps. Thank heavens. You've got to love books to love this place. Get a store map, ask an employee at the info desk in each room, he or she will not bite....More
This is a huge bookstore, and if you want to check out some books or don’t really know what you want you may usefully spend hours there. However, if you look for some special books (in my case it was neo-impressionist painting) the selection may...More
We went there as tourists, not as book buyers, and we weren't disappointed. This store is disorientingly huge. It's literally overwhelming how huge it is.
It was quite an experience. I'm glad we went to experience a Portland icon.
Powell’s city of books is very famous in Portland, this one is very big in size, spanning a few floors.
They have impressive books collections, including special section on rare books which are very nice.
Interior is nice, and pretty calming too. A good place...More

Powell’s books is well laid out. We appreciated the staff comments on highlighted books. It helped us to make selections out of...More

They have a parking lot! I also usually find parking on the street a couple blocks to the west. And, I often combine Powell's with a stop at Whole Foods, so I park at Whole Foods, go to Powell's, come back to WF and buy what I need - parking is free if you spend $10 (their 365 brand is affordable!) and you're not there more than two hours, last time I did this, anyway; things change so check ahead. Enjoy!
